Teddy used to have a home where he felt safe and happy. He lived with his family for years and he was convinced that he would always share his life with them.
Heartbreakingly, one day, Teddy’s world crumbled. His family surrendered him to a shelter; he did not know why. All he knew was that they disappeared from his life and that he found himself in an unfamiliar environment.
The pup felt confused and lost, and he desperately tried to soothe himself. He found comfort in the stuffed toys, which reminded him of the home he once had.
A Sudden Goodbye Teddy Could Not Understand

When Teddy arrived at the PAWS Shelter of Central Texas, he had a hard time.
The 7-year-old black Lab had just been surrendered by the family he spent most of his life with. The new environment was odd and unfamiliar.
Teddy did not know what he had done wrong to be separated from his beloved family.
“It was very hard and confusing for Teddy when he was brought in, and the worst part was that we couldn’t explain to him in words what was going on,” PAWS’ Dianne Scott told The Dodo.
The dog tried hard to understand and accept his new reality, and at the same time, he kept expecting his family to return for him.

The staff comforted him and gave him the attention he missed.
As time passed, Teddy’s disposition began to show. The staff noticed his playful side and how much he craved affection.
“Teddy quickly became a staff favorite through his goofy antics and obsession with his stuffies, and showing off his fetch skills,” Scott added.
Finding Comfort In The Smallest Things

Teddy became attached to stuffed toys. He always chose the soft ones. He carried them with him as if they meant the world to him, as if they helped him feel less alone.
“He will happily grab one as he trots along on his walk,” Scott said. “He also likes to make sure you’re watching and appreciating how well he’s taking care of the toy, as he glances at you over his shoulder.”
Unfortunately, while other shelter dogs found homes, Teddy remained at the shelter. He was overlooked.

The sweet pup never stopped hoping. Each time someone passed his kennel, a ray of hope flickered and faded away.
The wait took its toll on him, and his shelter friends couldn’t help feeling heartbroken.
The adorable boy often nuzzled into them, seeking affection. He absorbed their love as if it was something he had been missing for a long time.
“Teddy simply wants a person or persons to love him and be with him,” Scott said.
Still Waiting, Still Hoping

The staff knows Teddy does not need much to be happy. What he wants is simple and heartfelt.
While he continues waiting for the right family to walk through the door, Teddy keeps carrying his stuffed toys wherever he goes. He believes that his lucky day will come and that someone will finally see him for who he is.
We can’t wait to see Teddy leave the shelter with a loving family and write the best chapter of his life.
