California Pregnant Dog And Her Pup Found In Cardboard Boxes Before Storm Hits

Animal cruelty has become a growing concern in recent years, with many dogs left to suffer due to negligent owners. Abandoned and alone, these dogs face harsh conditions, from extreme weather to a lack of food and shelter.

This unfortunate reality was exactly what a pregnant dog and her pup experienced in Southern California. After being abandoned by their owner, the two were left to fend for themselves on the streets, without any protection or care.

They sought shelter in small cardboard boxes, curling up on the sidewalk as a dangerous storm approached.

Several neighbors quickly noticed the duo wandering the streets and immediately took action to help.

Rather than leaving them exposed, the residents created a makeshift shelter out of cardboard boxes, an old chair, and some blankets.

This temporary setup provided the dogs with a place to rest while they waited for further help.

“The kind neighbors made boxes for beds and a chair with blankets and beds. Sweet little babies each had their little boxes. And they each slept in their own,” Suzette Hall shared in a Facebook post.

However, everyone understood that this wouldn’t be enough to keep them safe from the storm.

With the storm fast approaching and the mother dog expecting puppies, the neighbors reached out to Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy 29 in Irvine, California, and her colleague, Mary, for help.

“Yesterday these two babies were dumped with nothing but each other. They would go up and down the street looking for the ones they once trusted. The neighbors couldn’t believe it,” Hall wrote.

Seeing the dogs curled up in their makeshift beds was heart-wrenching. The fear they must have felt was overwhelming, but fortunately, help was on the way.

Rescuing The Pair And Giving Them A New Beginning

Mary carefully picked up the puppy, but the mother dog was too scared to be approached. To safely catch her, Suzette set up a humane trap nearby, baited with food.

Within minutes, the mother dog was trapped and safely inside.

“I reunited them together in the trap and we drove away from their little box beds,” Suzette recalled.

Both dogs were then taken to a veterinary clinic for a full evaluation and care. After receiving clean bills of health, they would soon be ready to be placed in a foster home or find a permanent family.

Thanks to the quick actions of Suzette, Mary, and the caring neighbors, the two dogs were rescued just in time. Now, they are on their way to a fresh start, with hopes of finding the loving homes they deserve.
