Nova’s story is a testament to this struggle. She is a gentle dog who was cruelly left in a kennel on the shoulder of a busy highway.
A Heart-Wrenching Discovery
Nova had endured enough, yet she held on to hope. That hope shattered when her previous owner abandoned her, placing her in a kennel with a handwritten “free” sign beside a fast-moving road.
The cruelty of leaving a sweet dog in such a perilous spot is difficult to grasp. Cars whizzed past, making the scene all the more dangerous.
A compassionate witness could not ignore her plight. They shared Nova’s story online, hoping someone would intervene.
That someone was Madison Nygard, a dedicated volunteer with Pawfect Match Rescue in North Carolina.
She explained to People: “I was on my way. I had seen it a couple of minutes after it had posted it. I got to Nova before the post hit the hour mark.”
When Nygard arrived, she found Nova seated beside the kennel, the “free” sign still clinging to the bars. She was stunned by the disregard shown to such a gentle soul.
A Path Toward Recovery
After speaking with animal control officers at the site, Nygard made her choice: Nova would come home with her.
Her first stop was a veterinary clinic for a thorough examination to ensure Nova’s health and address any immediate concerns.
“I knew that at least if I brought her into the house, she would have food in her belly, and I could physically monitor,” she said.
Finally safe in Nygard’s foster care, Nova began to unwind. She welcomed every gesture of affection, her gratitude evident in every wag and nuzzle.
She quickly bonded with everyone in the household, adapting with remarkable resilience despite her traumatic experience.
While Nova cherished her foster family, Nygard understood that she needed a permanent home. Luckily, several prospective adopters soon stepped forward.
For now, Nova enjoys warmth, toys, comfort, and the love of a family who truly values her. The road to her forever home has begun, surrounded by care and kindness.
