Hashbrown doesn’t know that spending nearly two years in a shelter isn’t his fault. That makes his story all the more heartbreaking.
This affectionate Pittie mix has every quality you could wish for in a companion. He’s calm, playful, rarely barks, adores people, and is eager to pour out love to anyone who will accept it.
Yet the Pitbull ban in Arkansas has kept him from finding a home, leaving him overlooked again and again. Soon, he will reach the milestone of two full years behind bars, and the weight of waiting is slowly dimming his spirit.
A Heart That Craves Connection

Hashbrown arrived at the Sherwood Humane Animal Shelter in Sherwood, Arkansas, years ago, and from day one, he has shared nothing but kindness with everyone he meets.
“He most likely gets overlooked because he is very quiet, doesn’t bark, he isn’t one to say ‘Hey! tail wag, tail wag, jump, jump look at me!’,” his adoption profile explains.
Unfortunately, his breed has created barriers. Restrictions on Pitbull-type dogs make many adopters hesitant, despite Hashbrown’s proven gentle nature.

While other dogs are whisked away to new homes and fresh starts, Hashbrown remains in his kennel, hoping someone will finally look past the stigma and see him for who he truly is.
His cheerful personality has not faded. He revels in affection, enjoys playtime, and makes friends easily.
Shelter staff call him the perfect example of loyalty and kindness.
“If we got to re-name Hashbrown we would name him Goodest because he is the goodest boy ever,” his profile adds.
Susan, a devoted volunteer, has spent countless hours with him and knows the depth of love he has to give.
To mark his 600th day in the shelter, she shared a video of Hashbrown resting quietly on his blanket, eyes full of longing as passersby walked past him.
“Over 600 days and nights stuck in a kennel. Poor Hashbrown. It’s not fair at all! He needs a hero ASAP,” Susan wrote with the video.
Hope Refuses To Fade

The staff at Sherwood Humane have not given up on him. They believe there is a family out there who will finally recognize Hashbrown’s true nature: gentle, playful, and overflowing with love.
Each day in the shelter reminds everyone of how urgently he needs a forever home.
While he is safe and cared for, no shelter can replace the comfort and security of a permanent family, especially after such a long wait.

Even so, Hashbrown remains hopeful. He is neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinated. His perfect home would have a secure six-foot fence and a yard to run and play. He would thrive as the only pet but could live with a female dog if introduced carefully.
Hashbrown is ready. He just needs someone willing to give him the chance he has been patiently waiting for.
