Dogs who used to have loving families feel overwhelmed and heartbroken when they arrive at a shelter. Everything they used to know is gone forever. They are left to cope with fear and sadness.
The sudden change makes them feel confused, wondering what they did wrong.
Dominoa, a five-year-old pup, felt devastated when her family walked away and left her at a shelter. She didn’t understand why she had been left behind.
The happy life she had suddenly vanished. Just when it seemed like she might never find comfort again, something unexpected happened.
Dominoa’s Rough Start

Dominoa had spent nearly her whole life in a home where she felt safe and loved. She was the center of her family’s world for four years.
Sadly, everything changed when they surrendered her to Dekalb County Animal Services and told the staff they couldn’t care for her anymore.
The shelter was loud and stressful, and Dominoa didn’t know how to cope with the chaos around her.
A woman named Mary Alex decided to foster her as soon as she saw the condition she was in.

“She was skin and bones. She wouldn’t eat dog food. Even, I cooked a chicken breast and went and I sat in there with my tray, and just ate my food with her and was trying to feed it to her, and she just wouldn’t eat. I was like, ‘This poor baby,’” Mary Alex, Dominoa’s foster mom, told The Dodo.
Dominoa was too scared to eat and too overwhelmed to settle.
A Heartwarming Reunion

Mary was extremely worried for her and was trying to find ways to help her.
That’s when she received a message that changed everything. She learned that Dominoa wasn’t alone. She had a sister named Rocks who had also been surrendered.
Another foster volunteer was caring for her.
Mary talked to the volunteer who fostered Rocks and arranged a reunion for the two pups.
When the two pups finally saw each other, they were stunned. They immediately recognized one another, and their tails started wagging.

For a moment, nothing else existed. It was just the two of them, reconnecting after losing so much.
“That moment was the first ounce of peace that they both had felt in who knows how long,” Mary shared.
The pups felt better after the reunion. Dominoa started eating again. Rocks relaxed, too.
A New Chapter For Dominoa
The connection between the sisters was impossible to ignore. Mary and the rescue team soon realized they couldn’t separate them ever again.
They hoped the girls could be adopted into the same home.
“They’re just the sweetest, sweetest girls in the entire world. Anybody who gets them is going to get dogs who are just going to be loyal to you and love you for the rest of their life, and you’re going to get the most grateful dogs,” Mary said.
Dominoa slowly began to heal in her foster home. She showed the same unconditional love she once gave her first family, but this time she had the support she needed to grow strong again.
We hope that both Dominoa and Rocks will soon meet an amazing family who will love them to the moon and back and never give them up.
These delightful dogs deserve the best that life has to offer.
