Hearing chilling cries in the middle of the night would shake anyone.
For Kaitlyn, a devoted rescuer with Adams County Pet Rescue in Othello, Washington, there was no turning away.
The moment she heard the sounds, she sprang into action. She immediately realized the cries were not human, but she couldn’t tell where they were coming from, until her eyes fell beneath her own car.
A Frightening Sight Beneath The Vehicle
It was near 11 p.m. when Kaitlyn returned home and let her dogs outside for a quick bathroom break. Suddenly, loud, desperate cries echoed from under her vehicle.
She crouched down to investigate and froze. Two wide, fearful eyes emerged from the shadows, staring straight at her.
A terrified puppy was trapped beneath her car, trembling and trying to remain unseen.
But rescuing the pup was not going to be simple.
What appeared to be an easy save quickly turned into a frantic chase. The moment Kaitlyn reached toward the pup, it bolted.
“The pup headed out from under the car with Kaitlyn running right behind it. She needed to make quick decisions so it didn’t head out into the night and not be found,” the rescue shared.
Luckily, instead of disappearing into the nearby fields, the pup stayed within Kaitlyn’s yard. Despite her fear, she seemed to sense it was safer there.
Barefoot and determined after losing her sandals during the chase, Kaitlyn called for backup. With a few caring neighbors assisting, they gently cornered the frightened dog.
That’s when the rescue team arrived.
“When Kaitlyn calls at 11 p.m. at night, I always know it’s something interesting happening and I better answer. When she’s breathless, I know it’s going to be some real exciting and of course, it was,” the Washington-based rescue posted on Facebook.
With the pup finally safe, she was transported to the shelter to rest and recover.
Primavera’s Journey Toward A New Life
Initially timid and cautious, the puppy, later named Primavera, gradually began to trust again.
With the care of the ACPR team, she was placed into a foster home where her personality began to blossom.
Under the gentle guidance of her foster mom, Tammy, Primavera learned what it meant to feel safe, cherished, and carefree.
One of her favorite discoveries was riding around in her little puppy buggy.
Tammy’s patience and love transformed Primavera into a lively, affectionate dog. No longer withdrawn, she became playful, always eager for attention.
“She loves chasing balls, chew toys, carrying her stuffies around and hanging out in the backyard. She’s very social now and wants to be where the people are,” the ACPR team shared on Facebook.
Though still adjusting, Primavera is well on her way to becoming the ideal family companion.
When the right moment arrives, she will join her forever home, where she will be loved endlessly and allowed to flourish.
After everything she endured, she has earned nothing less.
