A Puppy That Others Overlooked
Abigal and Jeremy, a couple from Madison, Wisconsin, who have always loved dogs, visited a shelter in hopes of bringing home a new companion.
Shelter workers explained that a litter of puppies had recently come through and only one little girl was still waiting.
The moment the couple saw her, they felt an instant connection. She was cheerful, lively, and full of personality.
The staff then shared that the pup had experienced a brain stem injury that affected her behavior. Abigal and Jeremy did not hesitate for a moment. They accepted her exactly as she was and promised to give her the life she deserved.

“We kind of just found out over the years that she is really just a little goofy,” said Abigal for The Dodo, “I wouldn’t say that there is really anything wrong with her.”
Maddie became known for her tongue, which often hung from her mouth, adding to her one-of-a-kind charm.
She loved tagging along to the park in Madison and never went anywhere without her favorite tennis ball.
But socializing was not always easy for her. Maddie often tried to join other dogs, only to lose focus or watch them sprint away. Many pups did not understand her differences, so she often played alone or with her parents.
