“You think you know someone…”
When the Wright family in Wisconsin welcomed Jake into their home, they were confident he was an American Bulldog. The shelter had not provided a complete breakdown of his breed, but everything about him seemed to match. His strong build, wide head, and soft expression all pointed to the Bulldog they believed he was.
Maggie Wright, her brother Renae, and the rest of the family bonded with Jake right away. He was affectionate and full of personality, exactly what they hoped for in a rescue dog.
Even so, they remained curious about his background. To clear up any uncertainty, they ordered a DNA test, never expecting the results to turn their assumption upside down.
A DNA Test Changes Everything
The family suspected they might be slightly off in their guess. They figured Jake was probably a Bulldog mix, and the DNA results would reflect a blend of breeds.
Because of his looks and sturdy frame, Maggie and Renae were confident that at least part of their guess would be correct.
What the test revealed shocked them.
In a Reddit post titled “Whelp, we were wrong,” Maggie shared the outcome of the DNA test. Jake was not an American Bulldog at all. He was a purebred American Pit Bull Terrier.
The family was stunned.
Jake’s story quickly made its way across social media. Many users agreed that his appearance made the confusion understandable.
“I was bracing to be surprised that he wasn’t a pittie. I can see why you guessed American Bulldog too though,” one commenter said.
Another person added, “Wow, no American Bulldog? That’s wild. That’s the most American bulldog-looking pit I have ever seen.”
Others focused on Jake himself rather than the breed reveal.
“Those eyes just rip into your soul, don’t they? What a sweet baby Jake is,” someone wrote.
Loved For Who He Is
From the moment Jake left the Humane Society of Burnett County and moved into Maggie’s home, his kind nature was obvious.
His breed may have surprised everyone, but his behavior never did.
Jake quickly settled into family life, enjoying companionship, comfort, and time with other dogs. Some even noted that he resembled Chance from Homeward Bound.
He spends his days snuggling in his bed, soaking up attention, and staying close to the people who adore him.
Now that the mystery around his breed is solved, nothing about Jake’s place in the family has changed. If anything, the DNA results only strengthened their affection for him.
To Maggie and Renae, Jake is far more than a label. He is their devoted companion, full of love and joy.
And while he may be one hundred percent Pit Bull, he is also one hundred percent heart.
