Walking through many shelters over the years has made me realize one thing: some dogs stop you in your tracks before you even reach their kennel. And, truthfully, you never forget them. That look, the hopeful stare that says “Please take me home,” stays with you forever.
Sweet Lulu, a two-year-old Pittie mix, was definitely one of those dogs. The footage of her sitting alone on a shelter floor in California is just truly heartbreaking.
She’s friendly, resilient, and has the gentlest eyes. But here’s the heartbreaking part: Lulu hasn’t received a single adoption application. She is completely overlooked by everyone.
Heartbreaking Sight
Jackie Gonzales, a volunteer at the Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California, recently posted an emotional video on her TikTok, featuring Lulu in her kennel.
In the clip, Lulu is shown sitting quietly by her kennel door, as if waiting for someone to come and adopt her. Sadly, she has had no applications so far.
“Lulu is a beautiful 2-year-old pitbull mix with a heart as sweet as her gentle eyes. She came to us as an owner surrender, and while her past may be uncertain, her future is looking bright. Lulu is super dog friendly,” Gonzales wrote in the video description.
Despite her gentle nature and the fact that she loves every human she meets, no one has yet submitted a single adoption application.
Lulu remained alone in her kennel, hoping every day that someone, eventually, would choose her and take her home.
In just a few days, her video stirred emotions across social media, followed by heartwarming reactions in the comments section. Everyone expressed their compassion and hope for Lulu’s situation.
“Hope you find a great home soon. You are beautiful. It hurts my heart,” one commenter wrote.
“The one thing I can’t stand to see in these shelters is the cold hard floors, the isolation and the sadness,” another added.
A third person summed up what many were thinking:
“LULU you are a perfect little girl, & beautiful. I hope someone adopts you very soon & you’re so loved in your new home.”
Still Waiting
Sadly, Lulu’s story isn’t new. It’s familiar in shelters across the country, as many dogs just like her are currently waiting for a fresh start.
Lulu came in as an owner surrender, totally confused about why her life had changed so suddenly. This transition is hard for any dog, but for a social and affectionate pup like Lulu, the adjustment has been heartbreaking.
Yet, even in such a situation, Lulu’s sweet nature still shines through.
According to her caregivers, Lulu is playful, high-energy, and absolutely loves other animals. She would be perfect for an active family who loves adventures.
Hopefully, her new family is just around the corner, ready to give this doggo girl the life she truly deserves.
