Few experiences provoke more stress than a lost dog. Both the pet and the family endure days filled with worry and longing. The moment of reunion, however, brings one of life’s most intense waves of relief and joy.
Ashley, a Siberian Husky mix from Savannah, Georgia, went missing after a pet sitter failed to secure the door, allowing her to slip outside and run away.
For more than two weeks, her family faced relentless anxiety and uncertainty, until an unexpected message hinted that a dog listed for adoption could actually be their missing Ashley.
A Journey Back Home

When Ashley disappeared, her owner, Brittney Novickis McCarthy, and the family searched endlessly. Each day was devoted to combing the neighborhood, joined by friends, neighbors, and community volunteers who wanted to help.
As the days stretched past two weeks, hope began to waver. Then a promising lead emerged.
Brittney received a message from Hailey Lingo, a lost-and-found pet advocate with Halifax Humane Society.
Hailey suspected that a dog named Kit, listed for adoption, might actually be Ashley and contacted the family immediately.

Upon seeing Kit’s photo, Brittney felt certain the resemblance was unmistakable.
The revelation became even more remarkable when they learned the dog was not in Georgia, but in Daytona Beach, Florida, almost 300 miles from home.
How Ashley traveled so far remained a mystery, but one fact was clear: she was alive and waiting.
When Brittney and her husband arrived at the shelter, Ashley recognized them instantly. She leapt, barked, and wagged her tail so energetically it seemed to spin like a propeller.
There was no doubt: this was their Ashley.
A Reunion Full Of Emotion
“It was crazy that someone found a picture of her and was in a shelter about 300 miles away. We couldn’t be more excited that we found her. It was actually a bit more surreal,” Brittney told The Dodo.
Ashley’s return filled the McCarthy home with renewed life. She reunited with her siblings and seamlessly rejoined the family’s daily routines.

To prevent future incidents, the McCarthys quickly had Ashley microchipped. Her story captured hearts far beyond Georgia, with videos of her ecstatic reunion spreading online, highlighting the pure joy of a dog returning to her beloved family after weeks apart.
Ashley’s journey now serves as a heartfelt reminder that even when hope seems lost, a missing pet can still find its way back home.
