Most dogs need a little time before they settle comfortably into a new home, but every so often a puppy arrives and immediately acts like they have already found their perfect place.

Pepper, a young Labrador pup, proved to be one of those rare dogs. Even though she had just come from a shelter, she wasted no time curling up on her foster dad’s shoulder, almost as if she had already chosen him as her person.

Monte, a Florida resident who fosters for local shelters, expected Pepper to stay with him for only a short week. The plan was to give her a peaceful break from the shelter environment. What he did not count on was how quickly she would connect with him.

Pepper had come from Santa Rosa County Animal Services in Florida, and although Monte adored her, he knew he could not adopt her. With two retired bomb-sniffing Shepherds already living with him and his dedication to fostering, he had to prioritize helping future dogs in need.
Still, Monte was confident that Pepper’s warm personality would lead her to the right people very quickly. By letting her go, he could continue opening his home to other pups searching for a second chance.
His instincts were right. Within days, a friend of his decided to make Pepper part of their family.
Her new chapter began smoothly. She slept peacefully on her first night and experienced her first big park outing shortly after.
“She had her first night at our house and slept great! I just took her on her first walk at the park and she loved it…..but she got way too tired and I had to carry her like a baby all the way back to the car,” Joey, her new dad, shared on Instagram.
Pepper has now become the adored center of attention in her new home. She has already captivated her family, and it is only a matter of time before she rules the house with her charming personality.
