A Dog Found With A Message Attached To Her Leash
While roaming the streets of Tennessee looking for a safe place, a dog named Lilo was noticed by a caring passerby who could not ignore her situation.
The Good Samaritan brought her to McKamey Animal Center (MAC), where she finally received warmth and care. Attached to her leash was a note that revealed her story.
The note said:
”My name is Lilo. Please love me. My mom can’t keep me and is homeless with 2 kids. She tried her best, but can’t get help. I cost too much for her. She really loves me & I’m a great dog & love to be loved on. Please don’t abuse me.”
The staff at MAC were moved by the message and immediately began thinking about the family who had been forced to part with her. Hoping to reach Lilo’s mom, they shared an emotional message through Facebook:
”We are so sorry that you had to make the decision to leave [Lilo] behind. We know many folks are struggling to care for their pets right now. We know how hard it must be to give up an animal you so clearly loved because you can’t provide the care she needs. We understand. We want you to know she is safe, and we will take the very best care of her. She will be loved by our staff and volunteers, we will keep her name, and we promise you we will do our best to find her a wonderful new home. But, if you are reading this, we hope you will come forward to reclaim her. We will help you with whatever you need to care for her, to the best of our ability. Lilo definitely misses you, and we would like nothing more than to see her go back to the family she loves. Either way, please know that we understand, we will not judge, and we are here to help in any way we can.”
Within days, the message reached Lilo’s mom, making it possible for the two to see each other again.
A Shelter That Refused To Give Up On This Family
The moment Lilo’s mom embraced her, it was obvious how much love remained between them and how difficult it had been to part ways.
The team at MAC offered to continue supporting Lilo until her mom could regain stability and provide for her again. Their kindness gave the family time and hope during an incredibly challenging period.
Inspired by the situation, the shelter launched a fund aimed at helping families in financial crisis stay connected with their pets instead of feeling forced to surrender them.
