Texas Rescuer Spends Months Trying To Save A Pup Waiting For The Family That Abandoned Her

It is hard to find words strong enough to capture the fate of a dog abandoned by the very people she trusted most. The mix of heartbreak, fear, and confusion cuts deeper than anything, and often only rescuers truly understand the pain these animals endure.

One such story unfolded in Texas, where a determined rescuer came face to face with the sorrow of a pup left behind.

After her family dumped her in a park, the poor girl refused to move, waiting endlessly for the ones she loved to return.

Judy Obregon, founder of TAO Rescue in Fort Worth, Texas, has saved countless dogs over the years.

While driving through Carter Park near the lake, a place tragically known for abandoned pets, she spotted Rosita for the first time. It was clear Rosita had just been discarded. Although Judy wanted to help, the Pittie was far too frightened to come close.

“Once she heard the sound of my truck  , she bolted into the woods that she considered home. Like most do after being dumped like trash by the people they trusted,” Judy wrote on her Facebook.

For months Judy tried to bring Rosita to safety, but each attempt ended with the terrified dog sprinting back into the woods. The effort weighed heavily on Judy as well.

“I can’t begin to tell you how much stress, sleepless nights, crying every single day, because driving away without her was the most heartbreaking moment I’ve ever felt in my life,” wrote Judy.

Finally, after more than two exhausting months, Judy managed to lure Rosita into a trap.

This time, success. The moment was filled with relief and tears. Rosita was finally out of danger.

The early days were difficult. Rosita barely moved, still frozen by fear and trauma. Judy took things slowly, making sure she had food, space, and safety while gently building trust.

Step by step, Rosita began to relax. By the end of the first week, the once-frightened Pittie blossomed, suddenly racing around with zoomies and showering Judy with kisses.

In the months that followed, the bond between them grew unbreakable. Though Judy was technically fostering her, to Rosita she had become family.

With patience, love, and guidance, Rosita learned how to be a dog again, confident, social, and overflowing with affection.

“Rosita is well – mannered , smart , intelligent , eager to learn , funny , loyal , prettiest girl you’ll ever meet,” TAO rescue wrote.

As deeply as Judy loves her, she understands that keeping Rosita permanently would limit her ability to rescue other dogs who are still waiting for help.

“I know that it’s been two years and I’m sure people are saying: ‘You should just keep her,’ but to be honest with you, if I keep her, it’d be hard for me to save more Rositas,” Judy told The Dodo.

Rosita waits patiently for her forever family, though the rescue firmly believes the right people will come along.

With her gentle spirit and remarkable resilience, she is bound to bring happiness and warmth to whoever welcomes her.

“While her resilient spirit and loving nature have touched our hearts and others , she longs for a place to call her own,” the TAO team wrote.

We all hope Rosita soon finds that special home she deserves: a place filled with love, comfort, and security, after everything she’s endured.
