Dumped Pittie Finds Joy Again At New York Shelter, But There’s Still One Dream She’s Waiting For

It’s natural for surrendered dogs to face a difficult road to recovery. After losing their comfort and security of the only home they’ve ever known, they normally struggle with confusion, fear, and uncertainty.

But with time and patience, they sure can rediscover the joy they deserve.

Storm, a three-year-old Pittie girl from New York, was definitely one of those dogs. After her family, who could no longer keep her, left her at the shelter, Storm had a difficult time. She sat alone in her kennel, had a broken heart, and had a difficult time adjusting.

Fortunately, the volunteers made it their mission to help this sweet girl heal.

One thing is for sure: Storm definitely missed her family. After being surrendered to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in New York, she was utterly heartbroken.

“Storm is a 3.5-year-old female terrier mix who came to the shelter as an owner surrender,” the New York shelter shared on Instagram.

She hardly trusted anyone, and for a while, the spark in her eyes seemed to dim.

The volunteers started slowly. They regularly showered Storm with kind words, quiet trips to the park, and leisurely afternoons spent together where she could relax and just be a dog.

Over time, those simple acts began to chip away at Storm’s anxiety. Before long, she started to open up and show her gentle personality.

“Storm is cautious and fearful of strangers at first but once shes comfortable she becomes friendly. She knows basic cues like sit and come and would do best in a home where she can receive a quiet and structured environment,” TOH Animal Shelter added.

As the days passed, Storm began to trust her people.

She became more playful and just genuinely excited to experience life again. To see her regain her confidence and run freely in the field was a truly rewarding experience, especially knowing how far she went.

However, the one thing that Storm still missed was a forever home.

Waiting For The Right Family

The shelter volunteers have done an amazing job helping Storm regain her happiness. Now, this Pittie is waiting for the right family to come along.

She would do best in an adult-only home with owners who are ready to give her plenty of space and time to relax.

“Given her reserved nature and history of guarding, Storm would be best suited for an adult-only home with experienced dog owners who can offer her a calm and patient environment to build her confidence,” Storm’s caregivers concluded.

In the meantime, Storm will continue to rebuild her confidence.

So far, her favorite things are running along the beach, playing with the volunteers, and simply enjoying the world outside.

Hopefully, she won’t have to wait much longer for her happy ending. Storm definitely deserves it!
