Donna, from Stray Rescue of St. Louis, often drove by a series of derelict homes in her area, thinking about how easy it would be for a scared dog to take shelter there.
Her curiosity led her to investigate, and what she found was a small Pit Bull in desperate need of help.
The Rescue Team Enters the Danger Zone

Initially, Donna considered setting a trap to wait for the dog to come to her. However, after days of no success, she decided to check the back of the house, where she discovered something unexpected.
“There were actually footprints going up into the house. So she had to have gotten to the top of the steps and then pretty much jumped into the house,” said Donna.
Recognizing the danger of the stairs, Donna and her team quickly searched for a safer entry point. They realized they could enter through the basement and began their search there.

“There was, like, a broken pipe, so pretty much assumed she wasn’t going to be hanging out down there,” Donna said.
Donna then climbed the stairs, checking the second floor, but found nothing. Just as she started to worry they might leave without finding the dog, she spotted a small head peeking out from behind some trash on the third floor.

Donna moved cautiously towards the dog, speaking gently to encourage her to trust.
“She let me get a leash on her. She was a little hesitant at first, I gave her a little tug and she started following me and we went down,” Donna said.

Once outside, the dog eagerly jumped into the rescue vehicle. During the drive to the shelter, her joy was clear as she showed her appreciation.

She covered Donna and the team in kisses, wagging her tail nonstop.
“The aggressive pit bull mindset is just not true. They’re the sweetest, most loving dogs.”
A Fresh Start For The Pittie
Upon arriving at the shelter, the staff scanned her for a microchip but found nothing. They immediately put her up for adoption, hopeful that she would find a home where she could thrive.

It didn’t take long before a loving family came forward, eager to offer her a forever home.
Surrounded by constant affection and care, the once-anxious dog began to flourish, turning into a happy and confident companion.

From now on, she’ll know nothing but happiness!
