Huskies are known for their cleverness and knack for mischief, and King, a spirited Husky at an Arizona rescue, demonstrated both when he managed to escape his kennel one evening.
Rather than quietly sneaking out, King had an elaborate plan in mind, turning what could have been a simple escape into one of the most amusing nights the staff had ever witnessed.
The Midnight Alarm Rings
Late at night, Jodi Polanski of Lost Our Home Pet Rescue in Tempe, Arizona, was jolted awake by the shelter’s security alarm.
Motion detectors had sensed activity inside the office, initially prompting fears of a burglary. Upon checking the footage, however, Jodi discovered the intruder was not an outsider at all.
It was King, the shelter Husky, embarking on a late-night escapade.
After slipping out of his kennel, King wandered through the facility confidently, even attempting to free other dogs. When that failed, he made a beeline for the office.
Unlike most dogs who would dash for an exit, King knew precisely where the real prize was: the staff’s snack stash.
With skillful paws, he opened the office door, pulled food from the shelves, and indulged in a personal feast. Treats flew everywhere, creating a crunchy mess on the floor, but King seemed delighted by his own party.
Unbeknownst to him, his mischief had already summoned reinforcements. The Tempe Police Department was dispatched to investigate what appeared to be a break-in.
“The Tempe Police Department is called to the scene for what can only be described as the cutest arrest ever,” the LOHPR team wrote on Facebook.
Within moments, an officer entered the shelter and found King, wagging his tail proudly, caught red-pawed.
An Officer With Compassion
King, far from nervous, greeted the officer with joyful wiggling and a big smile, clearly pleased to have a new companion.
The officer guided him back to his kennel but then went above and beyond, taking the time to clean up every bit of the mess King had made, restoring the office to its original state before leaving.
“This dog had some amazing skills! And one of the coolest police officers ever who went above and beyond the call of duty to clean up the mess the dog made,” the rescue wrote.
King’s escapade became a cherished memory for everyone at the shelter. Soon afterward, he was adopted into a loving home where he no longer needed to escape for snacks or attention.
Now, King enjoys a full home, devoted family, and plenty of treats, without triggering any alarms or police visits.
