Texas Rescuer Fights To Save Puppy Whose Head Doubled In Size Overnight

Kathryn, a devoted animal rescuer based in Houston, Texas, has spent years caring for vulnerable puppies, especially those with medical needs. Her mission is simple: make sure every pup she meets receives the love and attention they deserve.

Just recently, she received an urgent call about two newborn brothers in critical condition. Without hesitation, Kathryn agreed to help, but the situation was more complicated than it seemed. The puppies were located two hours away, and time was running out.

After weighing her options, Kathryn found a way to bring the brothers to safety.

A Late-Night Journey To Save Two Lives

Kathryn was already caring for several young puppies and couldn’t leave them unattended for a long drive. So, she tried something unconventional. She requested an Uber.

Her plan quickly hit roadblocks. Several drivers initially accepted the ride, but once they learned it involved transporting two fragile puppies for a two-hour trip in the middle of the night, they canceled.

Eventually, one compassionate driver stepped forward. He drove four hours round-trip to ensure the puppies reached Kathryn’s care and had a chance to survive.

Once the puppies, later named Sal and Arti, arrived, Kathryn gave them their medication and settled them in for rest.

Everything seemed calm, until the next morning brought a frightening surprise.

A Sudden Medical Crisis

Although both puppies appeared stable, Kathryn noticed that Arti’s face had started to swell dramatically.

Alarmed, she rushed him to an emergency veterinary clinic. There, doctors discovered the unexpected cause. Arti’s body lacked vital proteins, which led to severe swelling in his head, doubling its size overnight.

Arti was admitted to intensive care for several days while Kathryn returned home to care for Sal and the other puppies.

Without his brother nearby, Sal became restless, pacing and crying constantly. Thankfully, Kathryn’s own dogs, Etta and Finn, stepped in to comfort him, offering companionship and reassurance.

Meanwhile, Arti began responding to treatment.

“Arti’s swelling went completely away after 3 days of a plasma drip. He was really struggling for a bit and I thought we were close to losing him. These are the strongest little boys ever. Sal opened his eyes today and we are waiting for Arti to follow,” Kathryn wrote in a Facebook post.

After several days in critical care, Arti was finally strong enough to return home. The moment Sal saw his brother again, he cried out with joy.

Together again, the puppies could rest, eat, and grow side by side. Within weeks, both had doubled in size and were ready for the next step: a foster home.

In their new foster environment, Sal and Arti continued to flourish. They faced every challenge together, growing into playful, affectionate, and resilient pups.

Before long, a loving family came forward, ready to welcome the brothers into their forever home.

Thanks to Kathryn’s dedication, the skilled veterinarians, and one determined Uber driver who refused to cancel, Sal and Arti were given the chance to live the joyful lives they were always meant to have.
