Heartbroken 13-Year-Old Dog Cries After Her Owner Leaves Her At A New York Shelter

Heartbroken 13-Year-Old Dog Cries After Her Owner Leaves Her At A New York Shelter

As a dog lover, it’s almost impossible not to feel deep sorrow when hearing about animals being abandoned. But few stories hit as hard as Mishi’s.

At thirteen years old, this gentle senior pup had known only one life—the comfort of her home and the warmth of her dad’s love. Then, everything changed in an instant.

Her familiar world vanished. The cozy bed, the soft pats, and her dad’s presence were replaced by a concrete floor, cold metal bars, and the unfamiliar noises of a shelter.

Mishi didn’t understand what had happened. Her heart was broken, and her grief was so deep that it touched everyone who met her.

Endless Tears And Heartbreak

For over a decade, Mishi had been the perfect companion, faithfully by her dad’s side. She had grown older with him, content in their quiet, loving routine.

But when they should have been enjoying their golden years together, life dealt them a painful blow.

Mishi’s dad was evicted from his home and facing homelessness. In his desperate situation, he had no choice but to surrender her to a shelter.

Knowing he could no longer care for her, he turned to Anita’s Stevens Swan Humane Society in New York for help.

“This sweet soul has endured the unimaginable for any animal. Mishi’s home, her person — the only companion she has ever known since she was just a tiny puppy 13 years ago — is no longer at her side,” the New York rescue wrote in a post.

The two walked three miles together to reach the shelter. When it came time to say goodbye, the moment was unbearable.

Mishi cried as she was placed in the kennel, while her dad stood by, tears streaming down his face, knowing this might be their final farewell.

“When she is placed back into a kennel, her cries cannot be silenced. It’s a reality so different from anything she has ever known,” the shelter added.

Still Hoping For Love

Days turned into weeks, and Mishi continued to struggle with her loss. Though she occasionally wagged her tail at kind strangers or enjoyed brief playtime with other dogs, her sadness lingered.

Her eyes still searched for the man who had loved her for so many years.

The shelter staff did everything they could to ease her pain. They gave her warm blankets, delicious treats, and affection whenever they could. But it was clear that a kennel could never replace the love of a home.

What Mishi needs most now is someone who will love her unconditionally and help her find peace again.

“Mishi does get along well with other animals. Mishi is spayed, current on vaccines, and microchipped,” ASSHS shared.

For her age, Mishi is remarkably healthy and still has plenty of love to give. She would make a wonderful addition to a calm and caring home where she can live out her senior years surrounded by comfort and warmth.

Volunteers remain hopeful that somewhere out there, a family will see beyond her years and give her the second chance she deserves.

Mishi once gave her whole heart to her dad. Now, she’s waiting for someone new to give it to again.
