When rescuers first found a pregnant dog named Zia wandering through a California neighborhood, they immediately knew she needed help.
She was taken to a shelter, where staff quickly noticed that her body carried the scars of a difficult life on the streets.
Though the crowded, noisy shelter wasn’t the best place for her to have puppies, Zia still seemed thankful. She appeared to sense that she was finally safe from harm.
For the first time in a long while, she placed her trust in humans, believing they would give her and her unborn puppies the care they desperately needed.
Finding Safety And Comfort

Fresno Bully Rescue in California soon stepped in to help.
Not long after, Zia was placed into the gentle care of her foster mom, Noelani, who welcomed her into her home with open arms.
From the moment she arrived, Zia showed nothing but appreciation. She couldn’t stop licking Noelani’s face and showering her with affection, as if she knew her life was about to change for the better.
“…She remains loving and trusting. She squeezes her head in your armpit seeking comfort and friendship,” Noelani shared on Facebook.
Her foster mom gave her a warm bath to wash away the dirt and fear of her past and prepared a cozy whelping box for her to rest in.
Just five days later, Zia gave birth to four healthy puppies named Zoie, Zeus, Zorro, and Zaina.

Noelani stayed by Zia’s side throughout the entire process, offering words of comfort and gentle encouragement. Exhausted but content, Zia curled up with her newborns, nursing them and keeping them close to her heart.
She quickly proved to be a devoted mother, watching over her little ones with unwavering love and care. Each day, the pups grew stronger under her protection.

As the weeks passed, their playful personalities began to shine.
Zia loved seeing them explore the world around them, especially when they were running across the grass or tumbling together in the yard.
For the first time, she could simply enjoy motherhood without fear or struggle.
A Forever Home Filled With Love

Once the puppies were old enough, each one was adopted into a loving home. Zia stayed with Noelani a bit longer, patiently waiting for her own forever family.
It didn’t take long. A family from San Francisco saw her photos on Noelani’s Instagram and instantly fell in love. They knew right away that Zia was meant to be part of their family.
When she arrived in her new home, Zia quickly adjusted to her new life.
Her new mom, Liz, and her family adored her from the start. Zia’s days were now filled with cuddles, long naps, and all the affection she could ever want.

Liz often shared updates about Zia’s happy life on Instagram.
Even when Zia faced a frightening cancer diagnosis later on, she showed incredible strength and courage. After successful surgery, she recovered fully and returned to her joyful, loving self.
Eventually, Liz shared the heartbreaking news that Zia had passed away. Her family expressed deep gratitude for the years of love and happiness she brought them.
“Impossible to fit our years with Z into a minute. What a sweet, special dog. Fly high, our Zizi girl. Thank you so much for the memories. We’ll love you forever,” Liz wrote in an Instagram post.
Zia’s story is a powerful reminder that love and compassion can transform even the most broken spirits.
