When residents at a Texas apartment complex spotted a tiny puppy stuck on a rooftop, they couldn’t believe their eyes.
The little pup was alone, frightened, and unable to climb down. All he could do was wait, hoping that someone would notice and help. Thankfully, the neighbors didn’t hesitate to act.
They quickly reached out to the Austin Animal Center, and the team responded right away.
Puppy Stranded Above
Animal protection officers Staci Figueroa and Erica Cerza from the Austin Animal Center arrived within minutes. They were stunned to find the small pup perched on the roof, clearly scared but unharmed.
It appeared that the puppy had wandered through the apartment hallway and somehow slipped through the railing, leaving him stranded above the ground.
The officers soon noticed an open gap in the nearby metal railing that could have turned the situation into a dangerous one. Acting fast was crucial, so Staci and Erica wasted no time.
With the help of a quick-thinking resident, they used a screwdriver to remove one of the fence pickets, creating enough space to reach the puppy safely.
Once the gap was open, Cerza gently lifted the little dog to safety.
“With the help of a resident and her handy dandy screwdriver, our officers were able to remove one of the pickets from the fence and get the little guy out. Once he was safe, the picket was replaced as if nothing had happened,” AAC wrote on Facebook.
Safe And Sound
After being rescued, the puppy relaxed in Cerza’s arms. Though a bit confused, he quickly calmed down and even began playing with her hair, showing he was already feeling secure.
The apartment management was asked to alert residents in case anyone was missing a dog, but no one came forward to claim him.
The pup was taken to the Austin Animal Center, where staff cared for him and gave him a name: Wicket.
Before long, his sweet and lively personality began to shine. Wicket didn’t have to wait long for his happy ending.
“No one came forward, and ‘Wicket’ was adopted to a new home last week,” the rescue shared on Facebook.
Now far away from rooftops and danger, Wicket spends his days surrounded by love, play, and comfort, the kind of life every puppy deserves.
