Most of us grew up watching Wile E. Coyote’s cartoon chases, but in real life, spotting one near your home is no joke, especially if you have pets. The thought of a coyote lurking close by is enough to make any pet owner uneasy.
For one Arizona family, that worry became reality, or so they thought.
Late one night, Meredith Warfel noticed a mysterious canine wandering onto her patio. In the faint glow of the porch light, it looked just like a coyote. What she didn’t know then was that this late-night visitor would soon change her family’s life forever.
A Mysterious Guest
Over the next several nights, the same animal appeared again and again. Curious and slightly nervous, Meredith snapped a few photos and shared them online, asking neighbors for advice.
The responses poured in. Almost everyone agreed: it had to be a coyote.
But something didn’t feel right to Meredith. The animal didn’t behave like a wild one. Instead of running away, it curled up on the patio furniture as if it belonged there. Its calm, trusting nature made her wonder if this “coyote” was something else entirely.
Her instincts turned out to be right.
The visitor wasn’t a wild predator at all. It was a dog, likely abandoned near a hiking trail close to the Warfels’ home and now searching for shelter.
“We don’t really know what her backstory is. My best guess is that somebody might have abandoned her in the hiking trail close to our house and she made her way to us,” Meredith explains in the video.
The dog was thin, hungry, and in poor condition. Meredith and her family couldn’t turn their backs on her. They gently coaxed her inside, then brought her to a nearby humane society to check for a microchip and see if she had an owner.
Over the next three days, the family visited her at the shelter, now lovingly called Luna, hoping someone would come forward to claim her.
No one did.
And that’s when Meredith made a decision that would change Luna’s life. The Warfel family officially adopted her and brought her home for good.
This time, Luna didn’t just return to the same patio. She came back as a beloved member of the family.
The Sweetest Family Member
Today, Luna has fully embraced her new life. She’s the “princess” of the house, surrounded by love, comfort, and plenty of attention.
“She’s incredibly loyal and loves the kids. She’s so affectionate and sweet, and she just loves cuddles. If you sit down, she will find your lap in about two seconds and lay down in it,” Meredith says.
Luna’s days are now filled with frisbee games, splashing in the pool, lounging on floaties, and sunbathing under the Arizona sky. She even enjoys cuddling with the family’s cats, proving she fits right in.
Her breed might still be a mystery, but to the Warfels, that doesn’t matter.
To them, she’s perfect.
What began as a late-night scare turned into something beautiful—a reminder that sometimes, what we fear most might just turn out to be exactly what we need.
