When people abandon dogs, they rarely consider the fear and confusion those animals experience.
Roxy, a small white puppy just eight weeks old, learned this lesson in the most painful way.
Her owners placed her inside a cardboard box and left her behind. Alone and unsure of what was happening, Roxy curled up tightly, waiting for something, anything, to change.
She didn’t know what to expect, but she hoped someone kind would find her and offer comfort. All she could do was wait and wish for a gentle hand to lift her out of the unknown.
A Box With A Message Leads To Rescue

A Pennsylvania resident was going about their day when they noticed a cardboard box sitting near their home.
What caught their attention was the writing on the outside.
“The caller reported there was a box in front of their home labeled ‘free puppy,’” Sara Hornbeck, the director of East Coast Bulldog Rescue, told The Dodo.
Curious, the resident looked inside and saw a pair of wide, innocent puppy eyes staring back.
Roxy seemed to relax the moment she saw the person’s face. It was as if she understood she was finally safe.
The resident contacted Animal Control immediately and explained that a puppy had been left outside their home. Officers arrived quickly, picked up Roxy, and brought her to the local shelter for care.
Rescue Team Steps In To Give Roxy A Chance

East Coast Bulldog Rescue, a volunteer-based group located in Pittsburgh, learned about Roxy and didn’t hesitate to help.
When the team met her, they were instantly drawn to her gentle nature. She was affectionate and sweet, making it hard to believe anyone could have abandoned her.
“Once we picked her up from the animal control kennel, we quickly discovered she was the sweetest, most lovable girl and was surprisingly in good shape for a puppy that had been discarded like trash,” Hornbeck added.
During her ride to freedom, Roxy seemed unsure at first. But as her rescuers offered kindness and reassurance, she began to relax.
Once she arrived at the rescue facility, the team fell in love with her and shared her story online.
Roxy’s Story Reaches Someone Ready To Love Her

It didn’t take long for Roxy’s story to reach the right person.
A woman who had recently lost her beloved Pittie, Junie Bug, saw the post and felt an immediate connection. She knew she wanted to give Roxy a home filled with love.
She also believed Roxy would be the perfect companion for her other dog, Murphy, who had been feeling lonely. With that decision, Roxy’s life took a joyful turn.
She now spends her days in a home where she is cherished, safe, and surrounded by affection. Her journey from abandonment to belonging is complete.
