Cali has every quality a dog lover could dream of. She’s sweet-natured and affectionate, always eager to share her love with anyone who gives her a chance.
Her journey began when she and her littermates arrived at the Animal Care Society in Louisville, Kentucky.
At first, everything looked bright, especially when Cali was chosen by a family she thought would be hers forever. But what seemed like the start of a happy ending turned into heartbreak.
Cali’s Adoption Setbacks
Shortly after arriving at the shelter, Cali was adopted and moved into her new home. She shared the space with other dogs and quickly settled in.
For a while, life was good. But after some time, Cali began showing signs of jealousy toward the other pets in the house. Her adopters eventually made the difficult decision to return her to the shelter.
Though devastated, Cali’s resilient spirit shone through, and she soon recovered from the disappointment. When another family came along and offered her a fresh start, it felt like her second chance at happiness.
Cali joyfully began this new chapter, convinced she had finally found her true home. Unfortunately, that hope was short-lived. Changes in her new family’s work situation forced them to bring her back once again.
Confused and heartbroken, Cali returned to the shelter for a second time.
Overlooked Despite Her Gentle Heart
The shelter team was sure she would soon be adopted again, but time passed and no one came. Cali longed for affection but continued to be overlooked.
Her caretakers believed the main reason she was being passed up was that she needed to be the only dog in the household, and most potential adopters already had other pets.
Recently, Cali attended an adoption event, full of hope that her luck would finally change. But as the day went on, she watched quietly while families chose other dogs and took them home, leaving her unnoticed.
Feeling forgotten, Cali stayed quietly in her crate with a heartbreaking expression. One by one, the other dogs found homes, but no one came for her.
The Kentucky shelter captured the moment on video, showing Cali sitting alone after everyone else had been adopted.
The touching clip reached many people online, but despite the attention, Cali still waited for someone to visit her. A few families expressed interest, yet none actually came to meet her at the shelter.
The Happy Turn Everyone Wished For
Even through the setbacks, her shelter team never gave up hope that Cali’s story would turn around. They knew she had so much love to offer and deserved a chance to show it.
Then, months later, the shelter finally shared the update everyone was hoping for: Cali went to a foster-to-adopt home.
“This means her new family fully intends to adopt her and give her the forever home she deserves. The next three weeks will be a trial period to ensure Cali feels comfortable and settles in well,” the shelter shared on Facebook.
