Animal cruelty has reached alarming levels in recent years.
Due to careless and neglectful owners, countless dogs are abandoned and left to survive on their own. Many end up homeless, exposed to harsh conditions, and forced to endure extreme weather while searching for shelter.
That’s exactly what happened to a pregnant dog and her young pup in Southern California. After their owner drove away, the two were left on the streets with no food, no protection, and no one to care for them.
They spent their days curled up on a sidewalk, tucked inside small cardboard boxes, as a powerful storm loomed overhead.
Two Dogs Clinging To Each Other For Comfort

Several neighbors noticed the pair wandering the street and quickly stepped in to help.
Instead of leaving them vulnerable, the residents created a makeshift shelter using cardboard boxes, an old chair, and a few blankets to give the dogs a place to rest.
“The kind neighbors made boxes for beds and a chair with blankets and beds. Sweet little babies each had their little boxes. And they each slept in their own,” Suzette Hall says in a Facebook post.
Still, everyone knew that wouldn’t be enough to protect them.

With the storm drawing closer and the mother dog expecting puppies, the neighbors contacted Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy in Irvine, California, and her colleague, Mary.
“Yesterday these two babies were dumped with nothing but each other. They would go up and down the street looking for the ones they once trusted. The neighbors couldn’t believe it,” Hall continues.
Seeing the dogs curled up in their makeshift beds was devastating. The thought of how frightened they must have felt was too much to bear.
Thankfully, help arrived quickly.
Mary gently scooped up the pup, but the mother was too anxious to be approached.
Suzette placed a humane trap nearby, baited with food. Within minutes, the mother was safely inside.
“I reunited them together in the trap and we drove away from their little box beds,” Suzette concludes.
A Chance To Heal And Begin Again

Both dogs were taken to a veterinary clinic for a full evaluation and care. After receiving clean bills of health, they’ll soon be ready for placement in either a foster home or a permanent one.
Thanks to the swift efforts of Suzette, Mary, and the compassionate neighbors, the dogs were rescued just in time. Now, they’re on the road to a fresh start.
Everyone hopes they’ll find the loving homes they’ve always deserved.
