Tiny Creature Clings To Floating Log In Kentucky Floods Until Help Arrives

Western Kentucky was overwhelmed by severe flooding brought on by unrelenting rain.

The disaster left behind destruction and sorrow, affecting countless lives across the region.

Yet amid the chaos, moments of courage and compassion surfaced, reminding people of the humanity that endures.

One such act unfolded in Paducah, a city hit especially hard.

Taylor Colley, Josh Newsome, and Micah Joiner, linemen working for Jackson Purchase Energy Corporation, were dispatched to disconnect power from submerged electrical lines.

While navigating the flooded area by boat, the crew noticed something unusual that made them stop.

A small animal was perched on a drifting log, visibly terrified. As the boat neared, the linemen realized it was a wild rabbit struggling to stay balanced.

He appeared to have lost hope of being saved.

Colley and his teammates immediately grasped the urgency. The current was swift, and time was critical.

“That’s not at all what you expect to see on a floating log in the water. We knew the chances of him surviving were very bleak if we didn’t help him,” Colley told The Dodo.

Though clearly anxious, the rabbit remained still as they approached, as if sensing that help had arrived.

The crew carefully lifted the rabbit from the log and placed him inside the boat. Once aboard, he began to relax, realizing he was no longer in danger.

They transported him to the nearest dry patch of land and gently released him.

He hopped away, seemingly content that someone had intervened when things felt hopeless. For the linemen, helping him was never a question.

“We simply knew we couldn’t pass by him without trying to save him. We were all thankful that, between our own safety, teamwork and good morals, we were able to give the rabbit a chance to have a less ‘dampened’ future,” Colley added.

Moments like these serve as reminders of the importance of stepping in when any life, no matter how small, is in need.

Gratitude goes out to every rescue team and compassionate individual aiding others through this natural disaster. Your kindness matters deeply.
