Dogs really are some of the kindest and most genuine companions you can find. They have an uncanny ability to brighten anyone’s day and can quickly make friends with just about everyone they meet.
That being said, they also know how to get what they want. I’ve seen it with my own dog, who has pulled the guilt-trip card more times than I can count.
Whenever he knocked something over, those sad eyes would come out, and somehow all was forgiven. Honestly, it worked more often than I’d like to admit.
Some owners catch on quicker, though. And in New York, one woman discovered firsthand just how good dogs can be at pulling emotional tricks.
Playing The Sad Eyes Card
When Amanda’s mom dropped their dog off at a New York daycare, she didn’t expect the dramatic reaction that followed.
Their pup looked absolutely crushed, as if her whole world had fallen apart. Even though she was surrounded by other dogs to play with, she wasn’t having any of it.
Amanda’s mom snapped some pictures and sent them over, and Amanda was floored by just how pitiful her dog looked. The classic puppy eyes were on full display, as if pleading with her mom not to leave.
At first, Amanda was convinced and told her mom to just pick the dog up again. But then she stopped to think, and everything made sense.
The truth was simple: their pup wanted to tag along to work with Amanda’s mom. Since she couldn’t, she pulled out her best guilt-trip look instead. Fortunately, this time they caught on.
It wasn’t her first performance, either. Her signature move is to dip her head slightly and glance upward with those big, watery eyes. It has been a winning strategy in the past.
The Clip That Went Viral
Since the moment was too good to keep to themselves, Amanda decided to post the video on her TikTok account.
They thought it might get a few smiles, but the reaction went way beyond that. The clip racked up hundreds of thousands of views, and plenty of dog owners could relate instantly.
One commenter wrote, “As a doggie daycare worker if I saw your pup at daycare especially that last pic I would drop everything to love on her.”
And honestly, that is exactly the purpose of the sad face. It’s a tactic, and it works almost every time.

That comment echoed what many others felt. A lot of viewers were surprised by just how convincing this pup could be, and it’s clear she knows how to milk the moment.
One more person added: “Aw, as someone who works in the petsmart pet hotel i would never send my dog there. Red collar means she is not allowed in group play so she just sits in thar room all day long.”
But that was not the situation for Amanda’s dog. She spent her day surrounded by staff members who kept her entertained with toys, treats, and plenty of love.
Amanda knew her pup enjoyed herself because as soon as she got home, she’d dash around the house with endless energy. At the end of the day, that’s what really matters.
