Spending years in the shelter can be tough for any dog, but it’s even worse when they live in an outdoor shelter in California.
The weather gets extremely hot in the summer, or cold in the winter, which makes it really difficult for dogs to adjust.
The shelter staff does its best to accommodate all dogs, but it’s not always easy or possible. Sometimes, the only thing their rescuers can do is find a home for them as fast as possible.
This sweet dog, named Loki, had spent a few years at the City of Desert Hot Springs Animal Care and Control, and it changed him, but things would soon change when he met someone special.
How Are They Dealing With This?
Even though Loki had spent over 2 years in the City of Desert Hot Springs Animal Care and Control, he was still a high-spirited dog.
Alex Hernandez had tried to find a home for him, but it was not easy. Fortunately, a woman named Ella reached out to her and wanted to meet Loki.
This was terrific news, as it might actually give him a chance to go outside for a bit and hopefully find a new owner.
Alex arranged a meeting with Ella at a dog restaurant named Boozehounds in California, and Loki was just over the moon after realizing he was going to get a day out.
The two women spent roughly two hours at the restaurant, and it was heartwarming to see how much Loki was enjoying himself.
He was given a delicious meal, a snack and he was just enjoying being in a nice air-conditioned room. It’s something he was not used to.
Everything Changed In A Single Day
Ella couldn’t even imagine how much he was struggling with the heat. She struggled just to move from her car to the restaurant. What dogs at this shelter go through is so difficult.
What surprised both of them was how polite Loki was the entire time. He didn’t just devour his meal, he ate it slowly and you could just tell that he enjoyed it so much.
After their meetup was over, it was time to go back to the shelter, but this was a problem because Loki didn’t want to go.
He planted his paws firmly on the ground and signaled to his rescuer that he didn’t want to go into the car. No matter what they did, it was hard to convince him.
It took another person to help get him inside the car, but he eventually gave in. However, despite his sadness, things were about to change dramatically.
Ella’s day out with Loki helped spread the word about his problem, and someone stepped in to adopt him. This was the best day of his life.
A kind man gave him the chance that he always wanted and he now gets to live his life in a wonderful home, surrounded by those who love him the most.
