It’s no secret that most dogs adore toys. They provide entertainment, help them practice skills like fetching or problem-solving, and can even encourage exploration.
But toys can also serve another purpose. Many dogs use them as comfort objects, often forming strong bonds with plush toys that make them feel safe and secure.
That’s exactly the case with the sweet pup in this story. Jane found her greatest comfort in snuggling her favorite plushie while patiently waiting for her new family to arrive.
Introducing Jane
Jane’s story began at the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana (HSNWLA). She was rescued along with her mom and siblings only hours after being born.
The shelter staff welcomed them with open arms, ensuring they had everything they needed to grow strong and feel safe.
After just a few months in their care, Jane was adopted as a young puppy.
Her new family tried to make life perfect for her, but sadly, things didn’t work out as they had hoped.
“Unfortunately, Jane just did not like the small dogs in the home. They tried for years to work with her, but, ultimately, they did the right thing by bringing Jane back to us,” Walton told The Dodo.
Discovering Comfort In Plushies
Returning to the shelter was hard on Jane. She became more reserved, and the staff noticed her struggling to adjust. Determined to help, they took her on field trips, car rides, and even to volunteers’ homes. Still, finding her the right adopter proved challenging.
Over time, though, Jane began showing interest in the plush toys kept around the shelter offices. What started as curiosity soon grew into a deep attachment.
Her toys quickly became her source of comfort, something she could always rely on.
“Jane loves her babies. She loves to snuggle up with them. Her sloth is her favorite!” Walton said.
The sight of Jane cuddled up with her stuffed toys melted the hearts of everyone at the shelter.
Finally, A Forever Home
After waiting patiently for a second chance, Jane’s luck turned around. A couple named Sarah and Justin M. fell in love with her and decided to adopt her.
When it came time for Jane to leave the shelter, the staff gave her a heartfelt send-off and made sure to pack her beloved plushies to take with her.
It didn’t take long for her new family to realize that Jane was exactly where she was meant to be. Sarah and Justin adore everything about her and are thrilled to give her the life she deserves.
Thanks to the kindness of her rescuers and her own resilience, Jane is finally enjoying a home filled with love, and, of course, plenty of plushies.
