Donna Lochmann and her fellow rescuers at a Missouri shelter are well acquainted with challenging situations. So when a call came in about a scared animal hiding in the bushes near a heavily trafficked road, the team didn’t hesitate to respond.
Donna and Kristen spent time scanning the area. They were certain the little creature they had been alerted about was not far.
Before long, a small head appeared through the grass.
Trapped With Nowhere To Run
Donna and Kristen, both volunteers with Stray Rescue of St. Louis, froze the moment they saw him. A young black pup looked back at them, wide-eyed and trembling, terrified by the roaring highway.
Every truck that passed made him shrink further into the grass. It was clear he wanted nothing more than to get away, but he was stuck without options. Fortunately, Donna and Kristen had just the plan he needed.
The pair approached gently, giving the pup a chance to feel safe. They knew trust would not come easily in such a frightening moment.
To their surprise, the little dog, later named Jet, quickly softened. It was as though he instantly recognized that these strangers meant to help.
“We just rescued Jet from a busy highway, he was hunkered down and shaking, not knowing where to go,” the Missouri rescue wrote in a Facebook post.
Soon enough, Jet was tucked into the back seat of their car, finally leaving the danger behind. His journey toward a better life had begun.
Thanks to his rescuers’ patience, Jet revealed his sweet personality almost right away. He was affectionate, playful, and eager to give love to everyone around him.
But at the shelter, Jet’s path took a sad turn. A scan of his microchip showed he once had a family. That family, however, explained they had already given him away and had no interest in taking him back.
“We thought we would reunite him with worried and ecstatic owners, but of course when we called, they said they had given him away to someone,” shared SRSL in an update.
A Fresh Start
Even with his abandonment, the rescue team stayed focused on giving Jet the future he deserved. His caregivers noticed that he wasn’t thriving in the busy rescue environment.
Within just a few days, a foster family stepped up to take him in. Jet’s happiness was immediate.
Now, this handsome pup has space to relax, adjust, and enjoy family life. His foster home reports that he has great manners and loves nothing more than snuggling close.
Playtime is another favorite. Jet has a zest for life and is excited to discover new adventures. All he needs now is a forever home with someone ready to love him unconditionally.
His rescuers remain determined to find that match.
“We accepted beautiful Jet into our Stray Rescue family and promised him we’ll find a family for him who will love, adore, and respect him for his entire life! He is 1.5 years old, 56 pounds, and so kind,” the rescue concluded.
