Recently, an Arizona girl had just that experience when she realized her dark brown-and-black Yorkshire Terrier, Chanel, wasn’t going to stay that way forever. The video of Chanel’s incredible transformation has since gone viral.
A Surprising Coat Transformation
When Patricia, an Arizona photographer, brought Chanel home seven years ago, she believed her little Yorkie’s dark coat was here to stay.
But to her amazement, Chanel’s puppy coat gave way to something completely different. Over time, her once dark fur grew lighter and softer, turning her into a whole new dog.
In June 2025, Patricia posted a TikTok video documenting Chanel’s change, and it quickly gained attention.
“I had no idea that Yorkies could change colors like that once they’ve grown out of their puppy hair. And to think I almost named her Boba,” the video text reads.
Now, seven years later, Chanel has blossomed into a stunning pup with a long, silky coat that no one could ever guess was once black.

“I didn’t know Shih Tzus changed color either and we named ours Oreo now it doesn’t even suit him,” one commenter joked.

A Beloved Companion Through The Years
Chanel may have surprised everyone with her coat color, but she has no more secrets left to hide. She’s a gentle, well-behaved companion who learned potty training in just five days and continues to impress with her intelligence.
As she’s gotten older, Chanel has slowed down a bit and now copes with cataracts. These days, she prefers curling up on her dad’s lap or spending quiet time with her dog sibling, Louie.
“Now she’s attached to my boyfriend’s hip, can barely see bc of her cataracts but still is just the most loving baby ever. I just want her to know that I am going to continue to give her the most fulfilling life possible bc she’s changed my life for the better,” Patricia shared in her post.
Chanel’s coat may have changed dramatically, but what has never changed is the unconditional love she shares with her family.
Her transformation only adds to her beauty, inside and out.
