Sometimes, behind a strong appearance and muscular frame lies the kindest heart that only wants love.
That was the reality for King Tut, a dog who spent nearly 150 days in a shelter in Kansas City, Missouri. Since the day he was surrendered, all this misunderstood Pittie wanted was a friend.
What he didn’t know then was that his life was about to change forever.
Introducing King Tut

King Tut’s past was anything but easy. From the moment he was left at KC Pet Project in Kansas City, he struggled with severe stress and anxiety.
All this gentle boy longed for was a safe home where he could feel free, but life in a kennel brought him nothing but worry. Then Chris, a seasoned foster, walked into the shelter, and everything shifted.
“He had been there for over 150 days. I fell in love. He had such a wiggly little body. With him being so stressed in the kennel, I wanted to get him out as soon as possible,” Chris told The Dodo.
The bond between them formed instantly. From that moment on, King Tut had found the foster dad he desperately needed.
After learning about Tut’s history, Chris promised to care for him for as long as necessary. He was ready to help Tut overcome his past. What he didn’t realize was that he would also gain the sweetest companion.
Building A New Routine

Once in his foster home, King Tut quickly adapted. Beneath his strong exterior was an affectionate dog who only wanted to shower his foster dad with love.
Chris was amazed at how cuddly Tut was, often behaving like a lap dog despite his size. Soon, they began doing everything together and even developed a charming morning ritual.
“We started to do almost everything together. Even little things in my day, like getting ready… I view him as my partner in crime,” Chris shared.
No matter what Chris was doing, brushing his hair, reading, or getting ready for the day, King Tut was always right there.
He loved being part of those simple daily routines, and his refusal to leave Chris’ side made their bond even stronger.
The Sweet Couch Companion

Of all their shared activities, King Tut’s absolute favorite was curling up on the couch for long naps, preferably in Chris’ lap. Despite all the other fun moments they enjoyed, being a couch potato was his ultimate joy.
But after months together, the bittersweet moment arrived. King Tut was ready to move to another foster, which eventually led him to a forever home.
“King Tut went to his new foster this afternoon. If you were at the shelter today and saw a grown man sobbing quietly to himself, that was me,” Chris wrote on Instagram.

Although it was difficult to say goodbye, Chris felt grateful knowing Tut’s journey had led him closer to the life he deserved.
“Just got an update from the adopter a few days ago and she said she is crazy in love with him. So he is living a very happy life,” he later shared.
Thanks to the love and patience of his foster dad, King Tut is now exactly where he belongs: in a warm, loving home surrounded by people who will never let him go.
