Each day, countless small acts of kindness from local dog lovers prove that compassion is still alive.
The same goes for Soul Dog Rescue in Fort Lupton, Colorado, a group of tireless volunteers who dedicate themselves to saving dogs in need.
Although some missions are long and exhausting, this team usually manages to nurse the dogs they save back to health and offer them a fresh start.
At times, when their capacity runs out, they depend on caring individuals who step up and carry out rescues on their own, just as Shimayne did.
A Kind-Hearted Volunteer Steps In

A compassionate woman from Chinle, Colorado, contacted Soul Dog Rescue urgently after spotting a mother dog and her puppies struggling to survive on a pile of broken concrete.
She had been keeping an eye on the pregnant dog for some time. Once she noticed the mother’s belly was no longer swollen, Shimayne realized the puppies had arrived and were likely nearby in need of help.

Although she couldn’t immediately find them, she refused to give up. With her neighbor, another dog lover, she searched the area. Just when it seemed hopeless, they suddenly heard the unmistakable high-pitched cries of puppies.
The mother had hidden all seven babies inside a narrow gap beneath the rubble, making them nearly impossible to reach.

To make matters worse, heavy machinery was operating close by. Bulldozers threatened to crush the slabs of concrete where the little family was hiding, so Shimayne and her neighbor knew they had to act fast.
They managed to crawl into the tight space and pull each member of the family out. To their relief, every pup appeared healthy, showing that their devoted mother had been caring for them as best she could.
Soon, the whole family was ready to head to a foster home.
Mom And Babies Finally Find Safety

Shimayne’s friend stepped in and agreed to foster the entire group, including the mother, who was later named Shuri.
The best news is that Shuri and two of her pups have already been adopted into loving homes where they are thriving.
“Five of Shuri’s pups are still available for adoption but we are so grateful for these good people saving their lives,” SDR wrote.

While the remaining puppies wait for their forever homes, there is no doubt the right families will find them soon.
What matters most is that Shuri and her babies have left their difficult past behind and will never face life without shelter again. From this point on, they will always know safety and love.
