This story centers around Luna, a sweet Pit Bull, and the powerful relationship she formed with her owner. Luna became not only her emotional anchor but also the reason she chose to rescue more animals in need.
Here’s how their extraordinary journey began.
A Puppy In Urgent Need Of Safety
While volunteering at a women’s shelter, Khristina met a woman fleeing an abusive relationship. She came seeking protection for herself and her children.
Along with her own safety, the woman was deeply concerned about her kids’ two puppies. Her partner had threatened them, and she needed to find them a safe place quickly.
Khristina had long wanted a dog. After hearing the woman’s story, she agreed to meet her and one of the puppies.
That night, Khristina had a vivid dream about a dog. In the dream, the dog had been with her since childhood. It felt like they had shared a lifetime together. When she woke up, the dream lingered with striking clarity.
The following day, she met the woman and her puppy, Luna. Luna was around 9 or 10 weeks old. As soon as she saw Khristina, she walked straight to her. Khristina picked her up, and Luna immediately fell asleep in her arms.
The Dog Who Changed Everything
Khristina said Luna entered her life at the exact moment she needed her most
“I had this opportunity to go and start a business in Montana with my best friend, but it was very scary and there was a lot of going on in my life at the time and she couldn’t have come at a better time.”
After Luna’s adoption, Khristina’s life took a new direction. Luna inspired her to deepen her commitment to animal rescue. She began fostering not just dogs, but also horses, goats, and other animals.
Later that same year, Khristina adopted another dog named Sweetheart. Luna and Sweetheart quickly became inseparable.
Luna had a calming presence. Other animals sensed it and felt safe around her. She naturally welcomed new arrivals into the home.
She developed a special connection with Foxy Brown, a rodeo horse. He became her closest companion among the animals. When Foxy fell ill, Khristina devoted herself to his care.
During that time, Luna rarely left her side. She stayed close as her mom tended to Foxy day after day.
Khristina considers Luna her soulmate.
“Luna and I are two halves of the same soul.”
Their bond runs so deep that Luna can sense Khristina’s emotions.
“Even when we are watching a movie, all I have to do is kind of gasp and she’s on alert, like what’s going on.”
Khristina found “the most loving, protective and loyal friend” in Luna.
Healing Together Through Love And Loss
Luna and Khristina enjoy hiking and long walks, and Luna shares a close relationship with Khristina’s son.
After learning about Luna’s story, many people asked what became of her original owner and her sister.
Khristina shared on Instagram that Luna’s first owner had successfully escaped her abusive situation. She started fresh in a new city with her children, and they were thriving. Luna’s sister also found a permanent home with a loving family.
Sweetheart passed away at the age of sixteen. Luna and Khristina are helping each other through the grief, holding onto the joyful memories they shared with her.
