When Brooke Morosca left Orlando, Florida, for New Orleans to attend a concert, she never expected her trip would lead to an unforgettable rescue.
On the day of the event, she spotted a yellow Labrador lying along the street. There were no homes nearby and no clue where the dog had come from.
The poor pup looked neglected, without a collar, and infested with fleas.
As soon as the dog saw her, she ran over, wagging her tail, convinced this stranger would help.
Morosca had no idea her night was about to bring not just one surprise, but two.
Two Strays Searching For Safety
Just as the Labrador reached her, a black dog suddenly appeared from the bushes and ran toward her as well. He was severely underweight and covered in fleas.
“They were covered in fleas, and the black one was severely malnourished (30 Ibs to be exact),” Morosca shared on TikTok.
The sight of the two strays broke her heart. It was clear they had been neglected and were desperately in need of care.
When she walked back toward her Airbnb, both dogs followed closely behind, unwilling to leave her side. They had chosen her as their protector.
Almost instantly, she felt a strong bond with them. The pair ended up staying with Morosca and her friends at the Airbnb for four days.
They were fed, cared for, and showered with kindness during their stay.
But the trip had to come to an end. Morosca was returning to Florida, and she couldn’t bear the thought of leaving them on the streets.
The dogs had grown comfortable around her, and she could sense their only wish was to be loved. The black pup especially leaned into her affection, and she realized he was meant to become part of her life.
Not ready to abandon them, she contacted a local shelter and asked them to care for both dogs until she could work out a longer-term plan.
Saying goodbye was heartbreaking, but she promised them she would not forget.
Waiting For Their Chance
The shelter explained that both dogs would have to complete a mandatory three-day stray hold before they could be put up for adoption.
Staff also recognized them and revealed they had been involved in an ongoing effort to gain custody of the dogs from their original owner.
Back in Florida, Morosca could not stop thinking about the pair. She called the shelter every single day, anxious for updates. On the third day, she was told their owner had stepped forward, delaying the process further.
Her heart sank, knowing the dogs would remain at the shelter longer than she had anticipated. Still, she refused to give up hope. She believed one day she would see them again.
Months passed, and then, at last, four months later, the moment came.
She received news that the black dog, now named Rhysand, was available for adoption. Sadly, the Labrador, Crumpet, had been returned to her owner.
Though it was bittersweet, she rushed to adopt Rhysand and bring him home.
While grateful to have him by her side, her thoughts kept drifting back to Crumpet. The idea of her being left with a neglectful owner weighed heavily on her heart.
Hope Restored
Morosca clung to the belief that one day she could help Crumpet too.
Rhysand quickly settled into his new home, enjoying every moment of love and comfort, but he clearly missed his sister.
Then, just a few weeks later, Morosca’s hope was rewarded. While browsing the shelter’s website, she was stunned to see Crumpet listed for adoption.
Without hesitation, she drove all the way back to Louisiana to bring the sweet Labrador home.
When Rhysand and Crumpet saw each other again, their joy was overwhelming. They wagged their tails, grinned wide, and celebrated their reunion with pure happiness.
Since Crumpet tested positive for heartworm, Morosca arranged for her to stay with a friend until she completed treatment.
Although she is uncertain if she can manage both dogs permanently due to the financial responsibility, she has already made a promise: if she cannot keep Crumpet, she will ensure the Labrador finds a loving home with a trusted friend. Rhysand and Crumpet will still have regular visits and playdates.
Thanks to Morosca’s kindness, two forgotten strays have found safety, love, and a bright future.
