Dogs are known for their funny fascination with mail and mail carriers, but Rigby has taken that love to a whole new level.
Unlike most pups, Rigby is not just excited about the delivery but also about the very place where the mail arrives.
Some people may find it odd, while others would say it’s simply part of his charm. Either way, everyone agrees that Rigby is truly one-of-a-kind.
From the time he was a tiny puppy, Rigby’s owners introduced him to a quirky pastime, spending time in the mailbox.
Most visitors were delighted to see a cheerful pup greeting them through the slot. Well, everyone except the mailman.
Meet Rigby, The Mailbox Dog

When Courtney Poole and her husband, Evan, moved into their new home in Louisville, Kentucky, they were thrilled about their cozy house and all its features. They knew they had found a place to settle for years to come.
Their young Heeler and Terrier mix, Rigby, quickly fell in love with the home too, though not for the hardwood floors or the backyard. His favorite discovery was the built-in mailbox on their porch.
Rigby’s fascination grew instantly. Courtney and Evan encouraged the playfulness by passing him through the mailbox to each other and even letting him nap inside.
What harm could there be in a puppy snoozing in such an unusual spot?
None at all, except it sparked a lasting habit. Very soon, the mailbox became Rigby’s most treasured place in the house.
Outgrowing His Spot
As the Pooles settled in and Rigby grew, there was only one problem. His beloved spot did not grow with him.
Rigby quickly went from a tiny puppy who fit perfectly inside to a 70-pound dog who could only squeeze his head through the opening.

Still, that didn’t stop him. Rigby figured out that poking his head through the mailbox was just as fun.
That’s when the neighborhood began noticing. Soon, people were stopping by to say hello, laughing, and even sharing videos of the “mailbox pup.”
Imagine strolling down the street, glancing at a porch, and seeing a dog’s head sticking out of the mailbox. How could you not smile?
Well, one person wasn’t smiling: the mailman.
A Surprise For The Mailman
One morning, the unsuspecting mail carrier opened the mailbox and came face to face with Rigby. The poor man nearly jumped out of his skin.
“Rigby’s typically only on the porch when we are, which is a few times each day, so he’s only surprised the mailman once,” Poole explained. “The mailman was understandably leery and Evan had to move him and back up for our mail to be delivered. It was actually pretty tense for a second.”
Though it was startling at first, the mailman eventually adjusted to Rigby’s unusual choice of hangout. These days, he is perfectly fine with the friendly pup watching over deliveries. It turns out dogs and mailmen can get along after all.

Rigby continues to enjoy life in his cozy Louisville home, keeping a close eye on the neighborhood and brightening the days of those who pass by.
He remains committed to his favorite pastime: peeking through the mailbox to spread joy in his own quirky way.
Courtney and Evan often share Rigby’s daily adventures on Instagram, where his growing fan base can keep up with his antics.
