Tennessee Shelter Dog Reaches 1,000 Days And Gets A Celebration Fit For A Princess

Tennessee Shelter Dog Reaches 1,000 Days And Gets A Celebration Fit For A Princess

Many stray dogs arrive at shelters fearful and reactive, terrified of nearly everything. Harsh street life and traumatic pasts are often to blame, but “Arizona” is proof of how much progress a dog can make.

This remarkable Boxer Pit mix not only overcame her fears, she blossomed into the shelter’s most beloved sweetheart.

This is her inspiring journey.

Arizona Shows Her True Spirit

Arizona arrived at the Humane Educational Society from Chattanooga, Tennessee as a highly reactive dog. She struggled with a fear of humans, disliked other dogs, and shredded every toy she was given.

The staff believed that behind her difficult behavior was a loving companion waiting to come out. Rather than giving up on her, they welcomed her in and gave her the care she needed.

Within months, Arizona had changed completely. With help from her behavioral trainers, she excelled in obedience and reactivity lessons.

Now she walks calmly on a leash, follows commands with ease, and most importantly, feels comfortable around people and dogs.

“She is a FANTASTIC dog – obedient, loving, funny, athletic, and so so smart,” the HES team shared on Facebook.

Once her training wrapped up, Arizona was placed with a foster mom, Krista Stein, who gave her a loving home and plenty of fun. For the first time, Arizona felt at ease and showed off her true personality.

Sadly, Krista could not keep her permanently, so Arizona returned to HES to begin what turned into one of the longest shelter stays any dog has faced.

Arizona’s Big Milestone

Despite her wonderful character, Arizona continued to be overlooked. She watched other dogs leave for homes while her own adopter never appeared.

Eventually, she became the longest resident at the Tennessee shelter, reaching her 1,000th day. The team refused to let the moment feel sad. Instead, they turned it into a joyful celebration.

They gathered all her favorite things: jolly balls, pup cups, and even a special peanut butter cake made just for her.

On her milestone day, Arizona was treated like royalty. She even went on a lake outing and enjoyed a refreshing swim.

“Arizona is HES’s longest canine resident. She’s more than ready to find her forever home – we can’t wait to wave goodbye to her when she finally rides off with her forever family,” her caregivers wrote in one of the Facebook posts.

Even though she hasn’t found her forever home yet, Arizona’s caregivers make sure that she doesn’t feel neglected, even for one bit.

In her temporary HES home, she has a whole community of people who absolutely love her!

Her patience and bright spirit will one day be rewarded with the perfect family. And when that moment comes, she will welcome them with a huge smile and continue being the happiest girl.
