There are moments when what you see seems impossible. A pair of eyes glowing somewhere dark. A sound coming from nowhere.
That happened in a parking lot in August. Someone spotted glowing eyes inside a fuel drum. They heard meows. The eyes belonged to kittens trapped inside.
For hours the babies were stuck. No way out. No help close by. No one knew if they would live.
Then rescuers showed up. Volunteers who had heard the cries. They approached the spot where they heard the noise only to be shocked by what happened next.
A Bunch Of Furry Surprises

When a kind passerby heard a noise coming from a fuel drum, they immediately called the California rescuers to help. Tiny Paws and Whiskers responded in no time.
Desiree Magee, a volunteer who works for the rescue, came to the scene to confirm what was going on. She noticed the noise coming from a fuel drum.
She took a photo inside and confirmed that there were indeed kittens hiding inside. How or why they got inside is beyond anyone.
The theory is that they were probably searching for food when they ended up inside. It was heartbreaking… all they wanted was something to eat.

Trucks came shortly after Magee reported the incident. She told The Dodo: “It’s not really something you can get into. [And] there was no way they could get out. These kittens would not have lived.”
The fuel tank weighed a lot, so it needed to be emptied before the rescuers could even attempt to get the kittens out of there.
Thanks to a man named David Loop, they had trucks that could take care of this problem. The cats were probably terrified at that moment, but it needed to be done.
It was the only way they could get to them in time. When all the fuel was siphoned out, the rescuers noticed that the scared kittens embraced each other.
A Complicated Rescue

The crane from the truck lifted the drum, and one person had to sit on top of it. The drum leveled out and the kittens saw a chance to flee the danger, so they jumped out.
Finally, they were outside. However, not everything was done yet. Magee was able to catch them shortly after and carry them into her car.
Magee said: “Right before that happened, I had set the trap down. We lowered the tank back down [and] filled it back up later that night.”
When Magee took them back to her home in California, she noticed that they smelled like diesel fuel and they were covered in grime.

She gave them a thorough bath to make sure that they are clean. However, there was one more twist to the story.
When all was said and done, Magee suspected that the kittens must have had a family somewhere close by, so she prepared traps ahead of time and went to see if she had caught them.
And what do you know, mama cat, and two more kittens were placed in a humane trap and reunited with the rest of the family.
In light of recent events, Magee named the first two kittens Tank and Diesel. Since the entire family is now safe, she is working on finding a forever home for them. After everything they have been through, they deserve a chance to start over.
