Losing a dog is one of the most painful experiences an owner can face. Across the United States, an estimated 10 million dogs are reported missing each year, and nearly 65 percent of them are never reunited with their families.
For many pet parents, the heartbreak of not knowing what happened to their beloved companion only deepens as time passes and the chances of a reunion grow slimmer.
This story follows a dog who vanished for two long years before finally making his way back to the people who loved him most.
Two Years Of Separation

While grabbing coffee one day, Jasmine Noffsinger and her sister spotted a frail dog wandering the streets. His ribs and spine were clearly visible, signs of severe malnourishment.
They pulled into a nearby parking lot and called to him, hoping he might respond. Noffsinger said to the Dodo: I got out of the car, and he came running at full speed at me, wagging his whole body. It was the cutest thing ever.
The dog showed no hesitation around strangers and quickly jumped into their car, as if eager for help.
The sisters brought him to a veterinarian to check for a microchip. The scan confirmed he had one, but no owner’s details appeared in the system.
Fortunately, the microchip company still held his full information. They revealed the dog’s name was Hamm, and his registered home was in Dade City, Florida.
An Emotional Reunion

The microchip company reached out to Patricia Dewit’s husband to deliver the unexpected news. Meanwhile, Noffsinger contacted Dewit directly to let her know Hamm was safe.
She said: When I told her I had Hamm, she started hysterically crying and was in shock and did not believe I had him. […] When I asked her where she lived, she said Dade City, which is 450 miles from me in Pensacola.
Dewit explained that Hamm had gone missing a long time ago, and the family had searched tirelessly for him but had been unable to find him.
After hearing he had been located, they arranged to meet Noffsinger in Tallahassee.
When Hamm saw his mom again, he bolted straight toward her car. Their long-awaited reunion was filled with joy and emotion.

Dewit expressed her gratitude to Noffsinger for showing such kindness. The two women have stayed in touch, with Dewit continuing to share updates about Hamm’s happy life back home.
This experience also carried an important lesson. Microchipping pets can make all the difference if they ever become lost. Even after years apart, it was the tiny chip that allowed Hamm to find his way back to the family that had never stopped loving him.
