One morning in Lexington, Kentucky, animal control officers began receiving multiple calls about a Husky that had somehow become trapped in a sewer drain.
The situation puzzled them. None of the callers could explain how a dog of his size had managed to get down there.
Still, so many people were reporting the same thing that the officers had no choice but to respond. Something unusual was clearly happening.
When they finally arrived at the scene, they were greeted by the sight of a furry nose poking out from a gap in the concrete.
Rescuers Bring Him Immense Joy
“We don’t know how [he] got in there,” a representative from Lexington-Fayette Animal Care & Control told The Dodo. “But we suspect he went through the drain pipe and could not figure out how to get out the way he came in.”
It was one of the strangest and even funniest calls they had ever received. But there was no time for laughter. They needed to act quickly, especially since at first they didn’t know what condition the Husky, named Sebastian, was in.
As the officers drew closer, relief washed over them. Not only was Sebastian unharmed, but he also seemed cheerful despite being wedged in such a tight spot.
“[Sebastian] had always wanted to meet the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” Lexington-Fayette Animal Care & Control joked in a Facebook post about the rescue. “But instead, found himself face to face with a couple of Animal Control Officers!”
Jokes aside, the team wasted no time. They worked together to lift a drain cover, giving Sebastian a clear way out. Moments later, the playful Husky was crawling up from the drain with a wide grin, as if his adventure had been nothing unusual.
“He had a great time being rescued and enjoyed his stay,” the representative said for The Dodo. “He would 100 percent do it again.”
His Parents Had A Different Reaction
After the successful rescue, Animal Care & Control reached out to Sebastian’s family. His worried parents had been frantic with fear, so they were overcome with relief to hear their beloved pup was safe.
Sebastian, however, felt no remorse. Thrilled with all the attention, he was too busy making friends and soaking up affection to realize the trouble he had caused.
“The spunky Sebastian is now safe and sound at our facility and is eagerly waiting to be reunited with his owners!” Animal Care & Control wrote in their Facebook post.
Soon after, Sebastian was back in his father’s arms. A photo captured the moment perfectly: Dad, close to tears, and Sebastian, full of joy, grinning from ear to ear.
But who could possibly blame such a mischievous pup? His smile is enough to brighten anyone’s day.
