Dogs continue to amaze us in ways we never expect, and one little Chi mom has truly outdone herself.
When rescuers first met Laugh Out Loud, they anticipated a standard Chihuahua litter. What no one foresaw was just how extraordinary her delivery would become.
Before going into labor at her foster home in Olathe, Kansas, her caregivers expected her to deliver four to five puppies, the typical number for a Chihuahua.
However, when her final puppy arrived, everyone was stunned. Laugh Out Loud had welcomed an astonishing 11 tiny pups, potentially making her a record-breaking mom!
Delivering On National Puppy Day
Laugh Out Loud, affectionately called LOL, was rescued from a hoarding situation in Kansas City. Her previous owners surrendered her along with many other dogs to Unleashed Pet Rescue and Adoption in Mission, Kansas.
From that moment, the rescue became her new home. Since she was heavily pregnant at intake, they ensured she had a foster home where she could give birth comfortably.
Neither the shelter staff nor foster mom Josie knew that LOL was about to make history with her litter.
Adding to the moment, she delivered her puppies on National Puppy Day, giving the occasion extra significance.
Even after the first five puppies were born, her belly remained large and rounded, making it clear more pups were still on the way.
Initially, her foster mom estimated a total of 10 babies. Upon recounting, she discovered the full number: 8 boys and 3 girls, totaling 11 puppies.
“Foster mom Josie got the puppies out to check genders. When she ended up with 8 boys and 3 girls, she realized something didn’t add up!! She quickly recounted several times and realized she was indeed correct— “LOL” had 11 puppies,” the UPRA team wrote.
Danielle Reno, president of the rescue, confirmed that all puppies were healthy and that LOL was doing well after a long, 12-hour labor.
While this isn’t the largest litter globally, it is officially the largest Chihuahua litter on record.
Going To Loving Furever Homes
The heartwarming news is that LOL and her pups soon found their forever families. Once the puppies reached 10 weeks of age, they were placed with their new owners.
LOL herself also found the perfect home she had deserved all along.
After caring so attentively for her large litter, this devoted mama could finally relax and begin a joyful new life with her family.
