Life has a way of writing the most incredible stories — ones where everything can change in an instant. Sometimes for the worse, but often for the better.
For dogs, the greatest dream is to find a forever home filled with love. And sometimes, fate steps in to turn that dream into reality, lifting them from the very bottom all the way to the top.
She Caught Everyone’s Eye At The Shelter
Layla’s journey is exactly the kind of story that warms the heart. This 2-year-old Golden Retriever was first spotted wandering alone in a gas station parking lot, dirty and abandoned.
Thankfully, rescuers stepped in and brought her to Heidi’s Village Animal Shelter in Phoenix, Arizona.
It didn’t take long for someone to notice her beauty and sweet spirit. Rebecca Crews, a woman from Phoenix, happened to stop by the shelter one day — and immediately, Layla stole her heart.
“I passed a brand-new-looking rescue I’d never heard of before called Heidi’s Village in Phoenix, Arizona,” Crews told The Dodo. “When I was taken back to the kennels, I immediately noticed [Layla].”
Rebecca consulted her husband, but the decision came quickly. Layla was a perfect match. Their first meeting sealed the deal, and soon Layla had a forever home.
A Star Is Born
Unlike many adopters who simply want a furry friend to cuddle, Rebecca saw something more in Layla.
“I began taking Layla to work with me at the PetSmart home office shortly after adopting her, and she was amazing,” Rebecca said. “She’s the perfect desk companion.”
Working on PetSmart’s social media team, Rebecca realized Layla had the ideal personality — and looks — to shine on camera. Before long, Layla began her modeling journey, bringing joy to millions of followers.
“[She] just had a natural talent for it and that’s why I started volunteering her for more photo shoots,” Rebecca explained. “She gets a treat in between every take, gets to play with a toy during outfit changes and, of course, gets lots of pets from the team.”
Still A Family Dog At Heart
Even though Layla’s schedule is packed with photo shoots and modeling gigs, she never forgets where she came from — or the family who loves her dearly.
At home, Layla enjoys the simple things: snuggling, playing, and endless kisses. She also loves sports, with a particular passion for tennis. Whenever Rafael Nadal plays, Layla insists on watching the match.
But above all, her happiest moments are those spent with her family.
Layla might be a social media star, but at heart, she’s just a sweet Golden Retriever who wants love and affection. Along the way, she has discovered a special talent — one that not only brings joy to her parents but also touches countless people who admire her.
