Every dog deserves to be embraced by loving owners and surrounded with affection. Only when they feel cherished can they truly experience joy and happiness.
Sadly, many pups endure neglect and cruelty from the very people they long to please. Morty, a gentle Pit Bull, knows this pain all too well. Instead of snuggling inside a warm home in North Carolina, he was chained outside, left longing for comfort and love.
As he crouched in his kennel, feeling lonely and unwanted, he had no idea his life was about to change forever.
Morty Gets A Second Chance

Morty’s story turned around when PETA, a nonprofit organization, stepped in to rescue him.
He was later transferred to the Virginia Beach SPCA. There, shelter staff learned about his past and felt heartbroken by the abuse he had suffered. They gently stroked him, showing him kindness he had long been denied. Morty finally felt a sense of safety and relief.
Around this time, Andrea and her husband were hoping to adopt a dog.
“We wanted a Pit Bull ‘cause we had heard that they were loving and loyal and we didn’t believe the stigma,” Andrea told GeoBeats Animals.
When the couple visited the Virginia shelter, they immediately locked eyes with Morty. His soulful brown eyes melted their hearts, and they knew he was the one. The scar on his neck revealed the cruelty he had endured, making their desire to love and protect him even stronger.
Adjusting To His Forever Home

After moving in with his forever family, Morty needed time to adapt. At first, he jumped a lot and chewed on things around the house.
Andrea and her husband were endlessly patient. With training and consistency, Morty gradually settled into his new life. Within months, he was thriving in his home.
Morty adores both his parents, though Andrea admits he seems especially close to her husband.

Each day, Morty eagerly waits for his dad to return from work. As soon as he arrives, the pup runs out to greet him and leaps into his arms.
He loves meeting people, always wagging his tail in excitement. Strangers can’t help but notice his large, floppy ears — his mom insists they’re his best feature.
His dislike for water, however, reveals a sad truth. Andrea and her husband believe his former family left him outside in the rain, which explains his fear.
A Dog Full Of Love

Morty is deeply in tune with his family’s emotions. When they’re down, he knows just how to comfort them.
“There are times I get down about discrimination that we face with his breed and one time it just hit me hard one day and I was just sobbing and he got right up in my face. It’s like he just knew that I was really upset and that made it all better,“ Andrea said.
She is grateful that Morty, despite his painful past, opened his heart to them.

“He doesn’t know us, but he trusts us and he’s shown us nothing but love. And I’m so grateful that he felt comfortable enough to give us a chance,“ Andrea shared.
Morty now enjoys the life he always dreamed of. His family adores him, spoiling him with love and kisses. His happy face beams in every photo, and his adventures are often shared on his Instagram account.
This once-abused pup has transformed into a beloved family member — a shining example of how love can heal even the deepest wounds.
