Sometimes, animal rescues fall not to shelter workers but to the police.
That is exactly what happened when the police department of Chippewa Falls in Wisconsin got a call about a roaming dog.
The officers had no idea that bringing this pup in would lead to such a surprising turn of events.
Tate Decides To Make Himself Useful
A good Samaritan spotted a dog named Tate pacing the streets without his human. Concerned for his safety, they quickly contacted the local police.
Officers responded right away, searching until they found the lost dog and safely escorting him back to the station.
While the team began working to track down his owners, Tate made himself comfortable. Before long, he seemed to decide he should pull his weight too.
He propped his paws up at the visitor window and began greeting everyone who entered the station, making it clear he was on duty.

Although he never received an official badge for his efforts, Tate was rewarded with endless pets and scratches. Judging by his wagging tail, he was more than happy with that trade.
“He fit in very well,” said a spokesperson for Chippewa Falls Police.
By the end of his busy day, Tate had proven himself a natural at the job. It almost seemed as if he was hoping to join the department full-time.
But just as Tate was settling into his new role, his shift came to an end. His owners had been located and were contacted right away.
They hurried to the police station, overjoyed to be reunited with their sweet dog. Learning that Tate had been such a cheerful helper during his stay only added to their joy.
Final Word
There is something about moments like this that instantly warms the heart. A dog in an unexpected place, taking on an unusual role, and looking absolutely adorable while doing it.
Thank you, Officer Tate, for your short but very sweet service.
