No dog should ever endure the terror of being abandoned. The fear, confusion, and heartbreak can leave lasting scars, and we can only hope these innocent animals find healing.
One night in Newark, New Jersey, Mia’s owner cruelly left her alone. She was tied to a fence with nothing but a tiny blanket, a small portion of food, and a bowl of water.
Then came the heartache.
Her human was gone, and Mia remained in the darkness, clinging to hope that someone would come back for her. Tragically, that moment never arrived.
Rescue Arrives Just In Time
Fortunately, compassionate souls spotted Mia alone in the dark and sprang into action. Yasmin, a veteran volunteer with Jersey Pits Rescue, from New Jersey, rushed to the scene, her heart breaking at the sight.
“I just got a call about an abandoned Pitbull. They left her here with a blanket and food and water,” Yasmin told The Dodo.
The bright side was that Mia’s sweet personality shone immediately. She wagged her tail, beaming a smile at Yasmin as if she somehow sensed that help had arrived, and she was right.
Mia Captures Hearts Instantly
Since it was the middle of the night, Yasmin had already brought a blanket and pillow. Unsure how her other dogs would react, she chose to spend the night with Mia in the car.
They bonded over some tasty treats that Mia adored, easing her stress and fear. The next morning, she received a flea treatment and was introduced to a temporary shelter: Yasmin’s home.
“Mia is the sweetest, most precious little soul we have ever met. We have no idea how a dog that was abandoned in this way can still be so resilient and loving,” the rescue wrote in a Facebook post.
Mia adapted immediately to her new surroundings. Her impeccable manners and social skills made it clear she had been a pet before.
“She is very low maintenance and happy just to be around her people. She walks nicely on leash, takes treats gently, and absolutely LOVES kids! Mia does not mind being in her crate and knows to use the bathroom outside,” her rescue wrote.
Mia showered everyone with affection, showing no issue with Yasmin’s cat or other animals. She was clearly a lover, and her devotion to children was undeniable.
All she ever wanted was attention, and now Mia was receiving it in abundance.
Falling In Love With Her Foster Dad
Just days after arriving with her new mom, Mia received the ultimate surprise. The rescue introduced her to the perfect foster dad, David, who was eager to meet her.
Upon their first encounter, Mia ran straight into his arms, melting against him instantly. It was love at first sight, and she clearly knew David was her person.
She clung to him constantly, 24/7, and though she loved other family members, no one compared to her new dad.
Eventually, Mia became the ideal foster fail. David and his family could not bear to be separated from her for a single day, so they chose to make her a permanent member of the family.
Now, Mia’s life is filled with adventure, affection, and endless love with her favorite humans.
Most importantly, she will never again fear abandonment. Her days of sadness are behind her, replaced entirely by happiness.
