Texas Rescuer Spots A Box In Overgrown Bushes On Roadside, Shocked To Find 5 Abandoned Puppies Inside

A Good Samaritan happened to come across a box left in overgrown bushes on the side of a road in Texas. Already suspecting what the box contained, they approached it and discovered five puppies curled up inside.

The babies were frightened and needed help.

The finder contacted the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services (ACS). An officer quickly responded and dashed to the location.

Given that it was a hot August day, the officer knew that time was of the essence.

Puppies Are Safe And Comfortable

The moment the animal care officer reached the scene, she started searching through the bushes until she noticed the abandoned cardboard box.

Once she opened it and saw the five furbabies, the officer’s heart sank. She immediately carried them to her car and drove them to the shelter.

After the staff examined the pups, they breathed a sigh of relief. All five puppies were in good condition.

ACS public relations manager Lisa Norwood told The Dodo: “We were worried about the impact the heat had on them — August days typically run about 100 degrees in our community. Thankfully, the puppies were just a little dehydrated and very hungry!”

The staff were thankful to have rescued them on time before the heat set in.

If they had found them only a few hours later, things could have ended in tragedy.

Thankfully, the pups were doing well. Their caregivers fed them and comforted them.

The furbabies enjoyed their companionship, and they relaxed, believing that everything would be alright.

The wonderful shelter staff members cared for them, and they started getting stronger.

While one of the puppies quickly found a forever home, the remaining four babies were transported to the Animal Defense League of Texas.

Enjoying Life In Their Foster Home

The pups were placed into foster homes where they continued thriving.

They soaked up their fosters’ love, feeling lucky to have received a second shot at happiness. Although the furballs had a rough start, their future will be great.

“Their future looks bright, and they’re getting a second chance at finding happy homes of their own. The ADL [fosters are] really giving them an opportunity to learn how to ‘dog,’” Norwood added.

We’re glad that the puppies enjoy staying with their foster families. We hope that they will soon steal the hearts of their families.

Many thanks to the Good Samaritan who found the abandoned puppies and called for help.

It was a small act of kindness toward the helpless animals, but for them, it made all the difference.
