Every devoted pet parent’s worst nightmare is the thought of their beloved dog disappearing.
For Susan and her husband from Massachusetts, that fear turned into reality when their seven-year-old pup, Maggie, ran out of the family’s yard and vanished.
Heartbroken but determined, the couple launched an immediate search. They scoured the area, hoping for any sign of their sweet girl. Despite their efforts, Maggie was nowhere to be found.
Instead of giving in to panic, they reached out to the Wellesley Police Department, desperate for help in bringing Maggie home.
Locating The Dog
Susan also took to Facebook, posting photos of Maggie and pleading with the community to keep an eye out for her missing pup.
For a while, there were no clues. It seemed as though Maggie had disappeared without a trace.
But an hour into the search, the Wellesley Fire Department contacted the police with news that made everyone’s hearts race. Maggie had been spotted in the Charles River—and she was in serious danger.
A police drone quickly confirmed the sighting, capturing footage of Maggie stranded on slippery rocks beneath a waterfall. Officials believed she had already fallen from at least one drop.
As firefighters tried to reach her, Maggie suddenly slipped again, plunging into the rushing current.
Thankfully, she managed to scramble onto another cluster of rocks, clinging to safety as the cold water roared around her.
At one point, the frightened pup attempted to leap over a stone wall but slipped once more, becoming trapped in the spillway. With the river threatening to sweep her downstream, rescuers knew they had no time to waste.
In a tense moment, the firefighters moved in, grabbed hold of Maggie, and finally pulled her to safety.
Heartwarming Reunion With Her Family
Exhausted and shaken, Maggie was carefully dried off and kept warm by her rescuers.
Soon after, the Wellesley Police Department contacted her parents with the incredible news—Maggie was safe.
Overjoyed, Susan rushed to the scene to reunite with her dog.
The moment Maggie saw her mom, her whole body relaxed. She leaned into her arms, finally feeling safe again.
Susan embraced her pup tightly, showering her with cuddles and promising that everything would be alright.
Her family’s nightmare was over, and Maggie was back where she belonged.
“… We are so incredibly grateful to both the Wellesley Police Department and the Newton Fire Department for rescuing our rescue dog and bringing her to safety,” Susan wrote on Facebook.
Thanks to the quick teamwork of police and firefighters, Maggie escaped the raging river and was able to return to her forever home, where she’ll never be alone again.
