West Virginia Vet Team Celebrates A Rare And Joyful Event

Birth is one of the most extraordinary moments there is.

The team at a West Virginia shelter knows exactly how special it can be. When an adorable Greyhound began delivering a litter of puppies, the entire staff gathered to welcome the newborns.

With a large litter to care for, everyone was ready to pitch in.

When one patient at Cross Lanes Vet required an emergency C-section, every staff member on duty scrubbed in, gathered supplies, and eagerly awaited the pups’ arrival.

As the puppies were delivered, they were carefully handed to staff members who gave them a quick checkup and a gentle bath.

After the last Greyhound puppy was born, the West Virginia surgeon closed the mama and confirmed the procedure was a success.

With all the puppies in perfect health, the team then focused on the mama to ensure she had a smooth and speedy recovery.

The little family is now spending time together, with the mama making sure the pups have clean fur and full bellies. Eventually, each of these puppies will likely find loving families to care for them and shower them with attention.

Dog Labor Tips

If you have a pregnant mama dog about to give birth, here are tips for creating a safe, comfortable labor environment:

Quiet and Private Space: Choose a calm, secluded area in your home where the mama feels safe and undisturbed. This helps reduce anxiety and keeps her relaxed.

Keep It Clean: Maintain hygiene by regularly changing bedding and having clean towels or papers ready. This prevents infections and keeps the area safe for the pups.

Your Role as Helper: Be prepared to assist if needed, but give the mama space if she’s managing well on her own.

Emergency Contact: Keep your veterinarian’s phone number handy and familiarize yourself with the birthing process so you can act quickly if a problem arises.

Post-Birth Care: After delivery, ensure the mama is comfortable, nursing properly, and has fresh water and food. Call the vet for a checkup to make sure everyone is healthy.

By preparing and following these tips, you can help puppies enter the world happy and healthy, setting the stage for their best possible life.
