Lonely Pup In South Carolina Waits For Someone To Notice Her At The Shelter

It’s always heartwarming when a shelter pup finally gets adopted into a family, but it’s difficult when one is left behind waiting for someone to notice them.

Many dogs in shelters face this problem, and it becomes even harder when their companions leave one after another, making the lonely ones feel even more isolated.

Meeting Chauncey

Chauncey’s story began at the Spartanburg Humane Society in South Carolina. She was gentle, playful, and very timid, which made it hard for her to adjust in the busy shelter environment.

She spent her days watching the other dogs go home with their new families. Through a small hole in the door, she would see them walk away while she stayed behind.

The staff couldn’t understand why Chauncey was overlooked time and time again.

Angel Cox, CEO of the Spartanburg Humane Society, told The Dodo: “Chauncey is very shy until she gets to know you. So, with all the barking and constant activity at the shelter, she kind of watched the world go by.

Because her situation was so tough, the workers made sure to give her extra love. They took her for walks, petted her, and offered treats to comfort her.

Cox said: “She loved being held and walked by the staff and the volunteers. She is great on a leash, so she was definitely a volunteer favorite.”

Finally, a family decided to adopt her, and Chauncey got her first taste of what it meant to live in a real home.

Sadly, the arrangement didn’t last, and she was returned to the shelter.

Hope On The Horizon

The staff refused to let Chauncey’s story end there. They posted about her on Facebook, determined to help her find another family.

Before long, their efforts paid off. Another family saw her post and decided to give her a chance.

This time, Chauncey quickly showed her true personality.

Cox said: “She sold herself right away. She is a very loving dog and won them over with her sweetness.”

The shelter staff celebrated when Chauncey finally found her forever family. After so much waiting, she was truly happy at last.

Although she had a difficult time because of her shyness, Chauncey’s story shows the importance of not overlooking quiet dogs in shelters.
