Kind passersby are often responsible for saving many stray dogs’ lives.
Thanks to their timely reactions, these four-legged friends are rescued and placed into adequate facilities, giving them a second chance at life.
One such case recently occurred on a busy interstate in Missouri. Drivers suddenly spotted a helpless, furry face peeking out from the side of the highway, with its chin peacefully resting on the ground.
Shortly afterward, the passersby called the local organization, Stray Rescue of St. Louis, which responded immediately.
All Alone
It didn’t take long for the Missouri team of rescuers to arrive at the location.
When they finally spotted the animal reported in the call, their hearts broke. It was a white, sweet dog that patiently waited by the side of the highway for someone to help him.
Although his past wasn’t quite clear, the rescuers could make an easy assumption that he had been abandoned.
The rescuers tried not to scare the dog. They approached him slowly, trying to befriend him with kind words and pats. Then, something amazing happened.
As it turned out, the dog accepted their friendship right off the bat. He didn’t budge when they tried to put a leash around his neck, as if he knew that everything would be fine.
He was friendly, affectionate, and eager to receive all the love at the facility.
At the vet, the pup was said to be a Great Pyrenees mix and around three years of age. He was in good shape and already up for a foster home.
The good news was that he didn’t need to wait at all. George and Vicki Dunn, an amazing couple, offered to foster this sweet boi, and he couldn’t be happier.
The Best Is Yet To Come
The dog, named Rene by the couple, warmed up to his new fosters immediately.
“We lovingly call him Remi for short. He is a sweet boy that has popped out of his shell since coming home with us. He is so playful and already has a family that is excited to have him join their family as soon as he is altered,” his foster dad wrote.
His playful and affectionate nature made it easy for the couple to teach him all about life in a family.
Rene requested cuddles, showered his parents with love, and couldn’t be more excited about playtime. He was the perfect adoption material!
Even though he still isn’t fully ready to go into a forever home, Rene already has his future family waiting for him. Soon enough, he’ll join them, starting a wonderful life chapter that he had been waiting for so long.
In the meantime, the Missouri rescue thanked Rene’s fosters, as well as all the people who selflessly apply to help the local rescues save more dogs from the streets.
“Thank you also to everyone who fosters for their own local rescues. YOU are the reason hundreds of thousands of animals are ALIVE, SAFE, and LOVED every single year,” the Missouri rescue wrote in the Facebook post.
