While countless dogs face hardships every day, it is often stereotypes that create the deepest wounds.
From the harmful myth that Pit Bulls are unadoptable to the belief that senior dogs have little value, these ideas leave many innocent pups overlooked and heartbroken.
One senior dog from Los Angeles, California, knows this pain all too well. Every potential adopter passed him by, dismissing him as “damaged goods.”
His story quickly touched thousands of people—and brought many to tears.
An Unfair Fate

According to a Facebook post by Philozoia, an animal welfare group in Los Angeles, a senior dog named Eeyore was rescued from a high-risk euthanasia shelter before arriving in their care.
The organization had nothing but glowing words about him:
“He is crate and house trained, kid-friendly, and would make a great family dog. Eeyore loves attention and naps, and he also has a playful side. He loves toys and takes his stuffed animal with him everywhere,” they wrote.
Despite his gentle nature, adoption interest was nonexistent. Even finding a foster home for him proved difficult.

That changed when a young woman named Harshey learned of his plight. His sad story touched her so deeply that she decided to foster him herself. From her home, his journey would soon reach thousands of hearts.
After spending some time with Eeyore, Harshey felt compelled to share his story on TikTok.
A Painful Backstory
She uploaded a video showing Eeyore’s condition and the reason so many overlooked him.
“A senior dog with severe scarring and asthma is seen as damaged goods for most adopters. But Eeyore has been nothing but brave and kind since I picked him up tonight,” her caption read.
The video revealed scars behind his ears and across his back—marks of past suffering. Harshey explained she might never have guessed the scars were from abuse if Eeyore hadn’t flinched the first time she gently petted him.

It was in that moment the truth became clear: Eeyore wasn’t just shunned for being a senior dog, but also because of the visible reminders of cruelty he had endured.
At the end of the video, Harshey admitted: “I can’t help but fear that no one will ever come for him.”
Hearts Broken, But Hope Stirs

Though the video was heartbreaking, it sparked compassion and empathy across social media. Thousands of people reacted, leaving messages of support.
“It’s unbelievable the pain and horror that humans inflict on these babies. Thank you for loving him—he deserves only the best 🙏❤️,” one commenter wrote.
Another added: “Sweet handsome Eeyore 🥺 I’m hoping with everything you find your happily ever after that you deserve ❤️❤️🙏.”
Some even asked Harshey why she didn’t just adopt him herself. But she offered an important explanation:
“Keeping him means more dogs that continue to not have a foster and are then at risk for euthanasia.”
By fostering, she could save not just Eeyore, but others like him who desperately needed temporary care and a chance at adoption.
Her message was clear: the solution isn’t for one person to keep every unwanted dog—it’s for more people to open their hearts to seniors and “imperfect” pups who deserve love just as much as any other dog.
A Wish For Change

Eeyore’s story is bittersweet. It shows both the cruelty he endured and the compassion that still exists in the world.
We can only hope that this spotlight will help shift mindsets, break down harmful stereotypes, and lead to more families choosing to adopt dogs like him.
Most of all, we wish for Eeyore’s story to end with the happiest chapter of all—his forever home.
Until then, we’ll keep our fingers crossed for this gentle senior boy.
